CCC's Street Art Contest #236 - Homer Simpson by DavidL of Barcelona

in StreetArtlast month (edited)

Hello everyone.
Im Lamica and the place where this mural is located holds a very special meaning for me, which is why I’ve chosen it for my first StreetArt Contest.

The artist behind this mural is named David, and besides being my mentor in the world of muralism, he is also a great friend with whom I share a strong passion: urbex (urban exploration).

I can’t reveal the exact location of this piece out of respect for the urbex community and my friend David, but I can tell you that it is somewhere in Catalonia, Spain.

It’s an abandoned place with many rooms spread across four floors, though only three were accessible, and even then, we had to be very careful going up and down because the staircase was in pretty bad shape.

This place is incredibly special to me because it’s where I first started exploring urbex and also where I painted my first mural. So many great memories. It was a strange feeling—a mix of excitement and frustration—to start painting next to someone so talented. There I was, creating my humble beginner’s mural, while this master was working on one of his incredible pieces.

But the place itself was inspiring, with beautiful, super old wallpaper everywhere, amazing nature on the outside. We would play music and spend the entire day painting, laughing, and soaking in the creative energy. Day after day, we repeated that process, creating in an environment filled with art and good vibes.

David has over 10 artworks in that location, while I have at least five. Yet, I chose one of his pieces instead of mine because our styles are so different, and I wanted to pay tribute to him—for his patience, dedication, and the constant support he has always given me. As you can see, his artistic style is unmistakable—whenever you see a David piece, you just know it’s his!

Today, the place is completely sealed off, meaning no one can access it anymore. These murals will remain hidden, unseen by anyone, until time eventually takes down those walls.

Homer is one of his iconic pieces, and I was there, sharing that moment with him as he painted it. Unforgettable.

Now, I’ll leave you with a few more photos from that time and other moments we shared in that place. Some of this photos are unique and you won’t find on his social media or anywhere else.

In the future, I’ll share more of his work, but in the meantime, you can check out more of his pieces on his Instagram profile.

Thanks for reading this far! I hope you enjoy the photos.

And finally, me, creating my first mural 😅

Big hug, and from the bottom of my heart, I hope you liked it.

Stunning works done by your friend David, especially Homer. And cool to see your work too in this old building with this skull. You've still got plenty of walls for more murals 😀 Thanks for sharing these pics on The StreetArt Community.
