The duality of the Heart: A Bee and Wolf mural

in StreetArt3 years ago

This piece is intriguing to say the least, it's not nearly one of my favorites of Colombia because the art style is not among those that I enjoy admiring the most but, having said that, the deepness of this piece is amazing, if you take a close look to every part of the graffiti, you'll see everything is intertwined.

The Colombian guy is just your average colombian regarding skin color, type of beard (for those who have), using a cap and the facial features are nothing out of the ordinary... meaning the artist wanted the person viewing to feel linked to the person in the mural (maybe the earpiece is too niche, but still, it looks like your average Colombian.

But why did the artist want the viewer to connect with the mural? Well, my theory is as follows:

We all have an inner wolf inside of us, that wolf is always trying to break free, it represents the bad things of our personality and the things we don't like about ourselves, the aspects of ourselves that we want to avoid and we would like to become better at. That wolf is coming out of this person's heart, because that's where we keep the wolf, close to us and connected to our heart, it is part of us.

But there is also life and the good things that this life brings, represented by a bee, which I believe are the source of most of the life in our planet, without bees a lot of plants would die, then a lot of herbivore animals wouldn't have anything to eat alongside the other insects that feed on plants and flowers, then the carnivore animals wouldn't have anything to eat, thus, ending life in our planet. Bees are the source of everything that is green and good in that world.

The bee is holding a key, a key that can open and can close the part of the body where the wolf comes from. Because we are not supposed to be bad, we are not supposed to just bury the bad things in life, we are supposed to control them and let them out in a proper way.

This is why this piece is so beautiful, because it holds the duality of life.
