Hey ho!
Here my entry for this topic.
This rock is actually not just any rock, but the base of the, now ruined, Alamut castle (also Hassan-Sabah castle). Around the year 1056 BC, this castle became the headquarters of the Ismaili cult, better known as the (first and original) Assassin's cult, which was a major influencing force in the politics of not just the region, but many kingdoms around it (even in the European continent).
After roughly 200 years the castle fell, under the Mongolian destructive conquest.
Today, there are unfortunately just a few base walls left, of what was once the home of the greatest library in the area, laboratories and basically a heaven for scientists, who could work freely there.
