Years go by and I still think that the 16-bit games were one of the best eras in gaming, there are so many iconic titles in a very short period of time and on consoles that are not much talked about nowadays, all the characters, from Sonic, to Mario, to Rayman and many more went through this colourful phase and many tribute games have been born.
Sonic Mania could be said to be in the category of tribute game but it adds a lot more, first it recovers the essence of Sonic in 2D after a period in which the character and Sega had had a mixed reception in many of their games, unlike Mario, Sonic did not do very well in his jump to 3D and the fast and colourful essence of the first games was missed a lot.
This game is proof that no matter if it's been 30 years or if we've had countless attempts of Sonic to come back, the good gameplay is still good years later, they recover a lot of that feeling of the first 3 games and add some toppings on top that helps to integrate a larger player base to the fast levels of this game, things like the acceleration in place (something that comes inspired from Smash Bros) or the powers that make more varied the paths we can take have the leading role.
Apart from its aesthetics that again wants to recover those old drawings of the Sega Genesis, the whole theme of the animations, the coloring and the difference between each of the levels is remarkable, so is the design that they have put to each of them, bringing many of the classic levels reworked with much more complexity, many more passages, traps and routes that make Sonic look like a metroidvania.
I've already posted about this game a few times and I always comment that both the level design and the 16-bit graphics are the things I love the most about this title, we'll also have the soundtrack that rescues a lot again from that trilogy of 2D games that put Sonic in his golden age, but we'll also have renditions to other stages of the hedgehog.
All in the form of some mini-games that revive some of the 3D essence of those sonic games that were still experimenting with 3D cameras, they are small sections that we can enter and although there are some glitches in their programming (just like the originals if I'm honest) I think they are moments of variety that add to the game.
If you want to get really into playing retro games I think it would be ideal to start with Sonic Mania, basically everything is optimised to pay homage to those games from the Genesis era plus some nice additions.
By the way don't forget to grab the free games of the week from Epic Store, they are about to give away a very interesting game like LOVE, perfect for those who like those retro style games with increased difficulty.

Pasan los años y sigo pensando en que los juegos de 16-bits fueron una de las mejores epocas que vivio el gaming, hay tantos titulos iconicos en un periodo de tiempo muy corto y en consolas de las que no se habla demasiado hoy en dia, todos los personajes, desde Sonic, pasando por Mario, Rayman y muchos mas pasaron por esta fase colorida y muchos juegos tributo han nacido.
Sonic Mania se podria decir que esta en la categoria de juego tributo pero agrega mucho mas, primero recupera la esencia del Sonic en 2D despues de un periodo en el que el personaje y Sega habian tenido una recepcion mixta en muchos de sus juegos, al contrario que Mario a Sonic no le fue muy bien en su salto al 3D y se extrañaba mucho esa esencia veloz y colorida de los primeros juegos.
Este juego es prueba de que no importa si han pasado 30 años o si hemos tenido incontables intentos de Sonic para volver, el buen gameplay sigue siendolo años despues, recuperan mucho de aquella sensacion de los primeros 3 juegos y le agregan algunos toppings encima que ayuda a integrar a una mayor base de jugadores a los niveles veloces de este juego, cosas como la aceleracion en lugar (algo que viene inspirado de Smash Bros) o los poderes que hacen mas variados los caminos que podemos tomar tienen el protagonismo.
Aparte de su estetica que nuevamente quiere recuperar esos viejos dibujos de la Sega Genesis, todo el tema de las animaciones, el coloreado y la diferencia entre cada uno de los niveles es notable, tambien lo es el diseño que le han puesto a cada uno de ellos, trayendo muchos de los niveles clasicos retrabajados con mucha mas complejidad, muchos mas pasadizos, trampas y rutas que hacen ver a sonic como un metroidvania
He hecho ya post sobre este juego algunas veces y siempre comento que tanto el diseño de niveles como los graficos de 16-bits son las cosas que mas me encantan de este titulo, tambien tendremos la banda sonora que rescata mucho nuevamente de esa trilogia de juegos en 2D que puso a Sonic en su epoca dorada, pero tambien tendremos rendiciones a otras etapas del erizo.
Todo en forma de algunos minijuegos que reviven algo de la esencia 3D de esos juegos de sonic que aun estaban experimentando con las camaras en tercera dimension, son pequeñas secciones en las que podemos entrar y aunque hay algunos fallos en su programado (tal como los originales si les soy sincero) creo que son momentos de variedad que suman al juego.
Si quieres meterte de lleno a jugar juegos retro creo que lo ideal seria empezar con Sonic Mania, basicamente todo esta optimizado para rendir homenaje a esos juegos de la epoca de la Genesis ademas de algunos buenos aditivos.
Por cierto no se olviden de agarrar los juegos gratis de la semana de Epic Store, estan a punto de dar un juego muy interesante como lo es LOVE, perfecto para los que les gustan esos juegos estilo retro con una dificultad aumentada.

Me encanta ese juego, pasé horas, muchas horas entretenida en mi infancia. Logre llegar al final pero nunca pudo matarlo.
