I've been wanting to bring to the community some post about Assassin's Creed Valhalla, other than just my participations in the contest. For reasons beyond my control, the story is already very advanced, so I can only bring you curious stories or anecdotes that have happened to me while playing the game.
One of those anecdotes tells how I found myself in a predicament for exploring too much beyond what was necessary, driven by my curiosity. In other words, while playing the game I suffered in my own flesh the famous phrase that says: “Curiosity killed the cat” or the Viking, in this case.
It all started one early morning like any other, in which I met one of the many members of the order of the ancients. Specifically, one of those of low rank that can be found wandering around the map.
Little by little I got closer on my white wolf and chased it while looking for a place with good terrain to attack. As a curious fact, those that roam the roads do not attack you without provocation, unlike those found in military camps and villages.
When the time and place were propitious, I shot at him with my bow to make him attack me, but I was not ready for his response. Immediately, he dismounted from his horse and threw a spear at me, which knocked me off my mount immediately.
Without time to recover, he gave me a low blow that threw me into the air, but after an exchange of blows I was able to seriously wound him in the neck.
Upon seeing himself wounded, the soldier began to heal, which was evident by the glowing runes that appeared around him. Immediately, I took advantage of the opportunity and the unevenness of the terrain to use a combat skill that allows me to take a huge leap and land on the enemy.
Once he was lying on the ground, all that remained was to use the assassins' blade to confirm his death and extract the medallion of his order from his corpse.
So far so good, but right next to the combat site stood some ancient Roman ruins, which I decided to explore in search of some ancient artifact or treasure chest.
As the sun had not yet risen, I waited for a while just in front of the ruins so that the sunrise would improve the illumination and, consequently, the quality of the images.
Once the sun was high, I wandered into the ruins to explore them, and from what I could see, they were some sort of Roman spa. While I found an artifact, there were no chests or anything of much value.
My only consolation prize was finding an entrance to what looked like a subway temple or mausoleum hidden inside a cliff. Immediately, I went inside, for where there are temples and mausoleums there are treasures.
At first I found nothing that caught my attention. It all looked like a very large sewer system or an old wine cellar. But everything changed when I came across a hole through the wall and when I looked around I could see a bear on the other side holding something in his hands.
Since I hadn't found any chests, I decided to at least face the bear, as I had already killed a few in the forest and I don't think another one would make a difference. But how wrong I was. I was deluded to think that this was a normal bear. As I crossed the wall, I realized my mistake.
What at the time appeared to be an ordinary grizzly bear had suddenly become a threat. Before me I had what are known as legendary beasts and in this case I had encountered the bear of the hills or as I call it the great drunken bear. Drunk in the literal sense, for he was drinking the wine that was coming out of some huge barrels.
Despite his drunken state, he fought like the legendary beast he was, and I would be lying to you if I told you that I defeated him the first time around, as he had quite a bit of power level on me. Every attack was powerful on its own, and on top of that, it also healed. Luckily, he had an attack that consumed a lot of stamina and made him faint for short moments. Moments in which I took the opportunity to shoot him in the hind legs and chest.
In the end, the fight ended with me on top of the bear, sticking my axe in his chest. I must say that he was a worthy opponent, and from this adventure I take two lessons. The first is that I should not play brave in territories where I clearly do not have the power level to be there. And secondly, I learned that the size-distance ratio perspective in the game is a bit skewed, as the bear looked smaller than it was. 😁
