My First Rise of the Ronin Gameplay

in Gaming Photography6 days ago

I’ve been really wanting to buy Rise of the Ronin before it was even released, but I didn’t go ahead with it. Then, for my birthday this year, I happened to find a 30% discount, so I didn’t hesitate and bought it right away. So, this post is about my first gameplay experience with it.

The game starts with a story about how the war between the Tokugawa Shogunate and some factions that oppose it began. But I won’t go into all the details here since I don’t remember everything from the intro.

Once the opening cutscene was over, the character creation began. I was really happy with what the game offers—you can customize pretty much everything about your character. But since I wanted to get started quickly, I went with the default character. Maybe when I have more time, I’ll start a new game and customize my character fully. I chose the Breaker class for blade sharpening origin. For weapons, I picked a spear and dual blades. No special reason, I just prefer these weapons over the others.

Next, I met the Bladesmith for a fighting tutorial. It seems she’s like the main character’s sifu. Early on, I was getting used to the photo mode, which is a bit harder compared to Ghost of Tsushima. To access the photo mode, I have to press two buttons at once, which is tricky during a fight. Unlike GOT, photo mode here is not as easy.

Right at the beginning of the game, in the starting village, I found a few chickens, haha! Although the graphics aren’t as good as GOT, I still like them. This is going to be a game I’ll play for hundreds of hours. The starting area is very basic—you can see it in the screenshots I’ve shared.

After the combat tutorial finished, I was sent with the female character to the Black Ship to defeat Matthew Perry. Before reaching the boss fight, there’s a battle between the guards at the Black Ship and the Twin Blade (the female and male characters). Maybe this part gives players a chance to try both characters out.

You can swim in the water! Then, you can come out and surprise attack enemies on the boat. So cool! The blood effects during the fights are very brutal, even more so than in GOT. The combat is very engaging and has me hooked! It’s more complex than GOT but way more fun!

After defeating Matthew Perry, a masked guy in a blue outfit shows up and stops us from killing him. Fighting Matthew Perry was tough enough, but this new enemy, the Blue Demon, was even harder. He moves so fast! Both the male and female characters I was controlling got defeated quickly. Then, Blue Demon told me I had to choose which character should die. That was a tough decision! It would’ve been amazing if both Twin Blades could team up in battle. Their combo attacks are beautiful!

In the end, I had to choose the male character, obviously. Afterward, I returned to the village where the tutorial started. There were ninjas roaming around, some hiding and ambushing me. I’m really enjoying the combat in Rise of the Ronin! It’s way more fun than in GOT.

At the end of the early game, I met the Bladesmith again. He told me I couldn’t leave the village, but he seemed to realize I had to. So, there was no choice but for one of us to die. It’s an honor code and culture thing. To cut the story short, I defeated the Bladesmith, and he died. That allowed me to leave the village. Now, I’m all fired up to get revenge and take down everyone involved with Matthew Perry and the Blue Demon.

I haven’t continued playing yet, but I can’t wait to have some free time to dive back into it. This game is going to be my favorite for a long time. I love everything about the combat, the graphics, the skill system, and there’s still so much more to explore. I might even like it more than GOT! Anyway, that’s all for now. I hope you enjoy the screenshots I’ve shared. I’m still learning how to take better pictures.
