Hello everyone,
I hope you are in good health... And I suck at multitasking.
No, I really do, I can do hundreds and thousands of things but one at a time. I am talking about this mundane thing because I still haven’t started on a good storyline for my pornstar to feature. And secondly and important one is this stupid thing has started to bother me a little more than I actually care.
So let me take you back to my office. (Because I live there, I am starting to wonder that when I get old and share a story all I will have is “this one time in my office...”) As usual, I am there busy working on a solution to the problem at hand, and my colleague tapped on my shoulder.
“Bhai, Kabhi se bula rahe hain.” (Bro.. Being calling you for a while now.)
“What's Up?”
“Lunch mein kya loge?” (What will you have for lunch?)
And I noticed that my colleague was working and having a conversation with me about the lunch and finalizing the lunch order on the Swiggy. If It was me, taking orders I would first pause my work discuss the lunch menu, and then move back to work.
It seems like my brain finds it difficult to do parallel processing. That is why I keep notepads handy to park things to do in a queue. But still, I envy the people who can enjoy a good conversation with 50% attention to the conversation. It is very different from having a client on the phone and continuing with the work. Because both the conversation and the hands-on task are connected. But how the hell are you validating the logs and having a conversation about which shop sells the best ‘Jigarthand’ (A mocktail ) in Chennai.
And this makes me wonder if I am putting 100% of my brainpower on tasks which doesn’t require that must to work with. For some unknown reasons, I still pay attention to the flight attendants. I have their script in my memory but still, my attention is on the flight attendant, I know that during the low pressure in the cabin the oxygen masks will drop down and I must secure my mask first before assisting others. And smoking in the lavatory is a punishable offense. But still, I pay attention.

My wife is one such example of a multitasker, she cooks and watches the series on her mobile at the same time. I mean from the chopping of veggies till serving. She can do the entire thing with her eyes and ears engaged with other activities. And her answer is always the same, you don’t need ears for cooking. And she does this with 100 other things. Talking and reading she does that parallelly too. And being the pathetic envious person I am, I tested her for what she can recall from what she read. And surprisingly she caught the zest of all the pages that she read and also talked to her childhood friend to calm down and not get too nervous about her wedding.
And that is it... We are all built differently. Apparently, my processing style is First In First Out, few have Parallel In Parallel Out and the rest have Garbage In Garbage Out. It does make me wonder if I can switch my style somehow, Like writing a blog and watching an episode of Shinchan. If you know anything about that please share, that can cut my long queue of to-read books, to-watch shows, Series, Movies, and to-write stories down. Till then I guess the flight attendant has my full attention.
I am inuke,
And that is all for today folks. And you know what is scary, It is common for the surgeon to have a conversation about a football or cricket match in the operation theater while operating on the patient. Maybe that could be the primary reason for administrating anesthesia, Imagine someone cut you open and started repair work somewhere near your liver and all are very excited to talk about the upcoming Liverpool match. NOPE!!! THANK YOU, that would be my response.
Why do you need to switch your style?
Most things get better by practice so if you really want to do it, then find some things that would at least theoretically work well together (such as watching the show and writing a blog post or reading a book) and start doing it. Keep at it for minimum of 1 month. You should find that you're slowly starting to get better and maybe you might be able to start mixing and matching more things.
Alternatively make a schedule that works with however your brain wants to work and try to cut down on things that aren't important to you (no matter how much other people scream that it's a matter of life or death to them that you do it) to make time for the things that are.
Actually, I was thinking anti-multitasking thoughts throughout the day.
I really do think we are giving multitasking way more credit than it really deserves. Ok, It may fit the requirement here and there, but not always.
I conclude that it is a 'nice to have' skill and not a 'must-have skill'.
This really should be my primary focus. I think I spend too much time doing things that need not be done at all. Like how I write and keep editing it to a point where it's a completely different story altogether. The narrative gets changed and it's like rewriting the same thing 100 times.
Ahhhh.!!! Too much pain...
I have a combination ready to test... (Audiobook + Workout) It worked in past but lets see if it still holds strong. XD
I must tell you that feedback from you is the best part of my Hive experience. And you have inspired me to share this experience with others. I am checking out random posts and commenting on them. I am keeping the number to around 10 per day for now. But I am going to take them a notch up :D

If it's any consolation I think it's a lot to do with how society has been going. Like for a while there seemed to be a trend where bemoaning how exhausted you were was a badge of honour as it was "proof" that you were "productive". And then because people are cramming way too much in (because YOLO and "need to be productive every waking second" "doing anything possible to prove not lazy" whatever) "multitasking" becomes the way to cram everything and more into what time you have.
If it's a thing that comes natural then it's an amazing way of actually getting more done. If it's not or is something that you're currently working on, you may just end up feeling constantly burnt out and resentful and not actually be getting more done at best or even less at worst XD
Amusingly your ability to concentrate on one thing at a time and absorb it in its fullest is probably the goal of a lot of the people practising mindfulness.
Good luck with the audiobook + workout :D
Multitasking is a Super Power in real life...😄😄😄
Even Superheroes may not be able to multitask...😄😄😄
Yup that would be so cool imagine able to write a blog will listening to a podcast or audiobook..
I can't multitask too, and yes we do suck at multitasking. Although your wife seems to be an expert in the field. Maybe ask her how can she read and cooks at the same time. Nice post btw
I did so many times.
Answer is always the same. Don't waste time if you can do something do it..
:-(
Hahaha..
I am still clueless.

Many entrepreneurs do not recommend multi-tasking, there are some things like driving, cooking, etc which we can do subsconsiously
