En la iniciativa pasada nos preguntábamos sobre el rol de las humanidades de cara al futuro, y tras mirar las entradas de las personas que se animaron a exponer sus ideas, hemos pensado en cierta dicotomía, por un lado puede pensarse que las humanidades están en crisis, pero que también representan una posibilidad educativa y frente a este planteamiento.
Como ya lo hemos dicho en pasadas ocasiones, es cierto que el mundo actual esta marcado por un vertiginoso avance científico-tecnológico, lo que representa una constante transformación social, lo que pone a las humanidades en cierta cuestión. Ya reflexionamos sobre el rol de estas de cara al futuro, pero, y en la actualidad las humanidades qué rol están teniendo en la educación. ¿Acaso se podría considerar que se encuentran en crisis, relegadas a un segundo plano por disciplinas más "prácticas" y con mayor demanda laboral? ¿O siguen siendo una opción educativa fundamental para la formación integral del ser humano?
Así que con esta iniciativa queremos promover la posibilidad de repensar las humanidades en este siglo. Las humanidades, son tremendamente amplias, abarcando disciplinas como la filosofía, la historia, la literatura, las artes y las lenguas, por solo mencionar algunas, han sido pilares de la educación durante siglos. Su enfoque en la comprensión del ser humano, la sociedad y la cultura ha permitido cultivar el pensamiento crítico, la creatividad, la empatía y la capacidad de comunicación efectiva.
Sin embargo, en las últimas décadas, las humanidades han enfrentado diversos desafíos. La presión por una educación orientada al mercado laboral, el auge de las carreras STEM (Ciencia, Tecnología, Ingeniería y Matemáticas) y la percepción de que las disciplinas humanísticas carecen de aplicación práctica han contribuido a una disminución en su demanda. Y no con esto afirmamos que esté mal la inclinación a lo técnico-práctico, solo que el desequilibrio promovido por el sistema ha creado cierta apatía por las humanidades. Hay universidades donde la matricula en áreas como la ingeniería son abismalmente superiores que las matrículas de letras por solo mencionar un ejemplo.
Es importante reconocer que la dicotomía entre las humanidades y las disciplinas prácticas es una falsa dicotomía. Un mundo que solo valore lo "práctico" se vería privado de la capacidad de análisis crítico, la innovación y la comprensión de las complejidades del ser humano y la sociedad. Por otro lado, las humanidades no solo enriquecen la vida personal, sino que también son esenciales para enfrentar los retos del mundo actual. Su enfoque en la ética, la responsabilidad social y la comunicación intercultural es fundamental para construir una mejor sociedad.
Así que frente a un mundo en constante cambio, las habilidades blandas como el pensamiento crítico, la creatividad, la comunicación efectiva y la capacidad de adaptación son cada vez más valoradas en el mercado laboral, al cultivar estas habilidades, preparan a las personas para enfrentar los desafíos del futuro y desenvolverse en un mundo complejo e incierto.

Las Humanidades: ¿Están en crisis o son una opción educativa?
Con este preámbulo queremos seguir motivando a pensar las humanidades, y ahora que lo pensamos cronológicamente debimos pensar primer a las humanidades en la actualidad y luego su rol de cara al futuro. Pero no importa, ahora en esta oportunidad queremos sugerir algunas preguntas que puedan servir como disparadores de reflexiones.
¿Qué papel deberían jugar las humanidades en la educación de este siglo?
¿Cómo podemos revalorizar la importancia de las humanidades en una sociedad cada vez más tecnificada?
¿Qué estrategias se pueden implementar para fomentar el interés en las humanidades entre las nuevas generaciones?
Estas son solo preguntas a modo de sugerencias, queremos invitar a toda la comunidad y a todo a quien pueda interesar a reflexionar sobre estas preguntas. Sabemos que las humanidades no son un lujo del pasado, sino una necesidad para el futuro como ya lo hemos visto en las entregas de la pasada iniciativa. Pero, el futuro se construye hoy y hay que partir desde debates críticos.

As we have already said in the past, it is true that today's world is marked by a vertiginous scientific-technological progress, which represents a constant social transformation, which puts the humanities in a certain question. We have already reflected on the role of the humanities in the future, but what role are the humanities currently playing in education? Could they be considered to be in crisis, relegated to the background by more "practical" disciplines with greater labor demand? Or are they still a fundamental educational option for the integral formation of the human being?
So with this initiative we want to promote the possibility of rethinking the humanities in this century. The humanities, which are tremendously broad, encompassing disciplines such as philosophy, history, literature, arts and languages, just to mention a few, have been pillars of education for centuries. Their focus on understanding human beings, society and culture has cultivated critical thinking, creativity, empathy and effective communication skills.
However, in recent decades, the humanities have faced a number of challenges. The pressure for labor market-oriented education, the rise of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) careers, and the perception that humanities disciplines lack practical application have contributed to a decline in demand. And this is not to say that the inclination towards the technical-practical is wrong, only that the imbalance promoted by the system has created a certain apathy for the humanities. There are universities where enrollment in areas such as engineering are abysmally higher than enrollment in the arts, just to mention one example.
It is important to recognize that the dichotomy between the humanities and the practical disciplines is a false one. A world that values only the "practical" would be deprived of the capacity for critical analysis, innovation and understanding of the complexities of human beings and society. On the other hand, the humanities not only enrich personal life, but are also essential to meet the challenges of today's world. Their focus on ethics, social responsibility and intercultural communication is fundamental to building a better society.
So in the face of an ever-changing world, soft skills such as critical thinking, creativity, effective communication and adaptability are increasingly valued in the job market. By cultivating these skills, they prepare people to face the challenges of the future and function in a complex and uncertain world.
