MEMES RESONATES WITH PEOPLE

The meme culture is evolving in this digital age where, the means of communication is no longer relegated to mere verbal and non verbal means. In our contemporary, we can use digital pictures that have communal meanings embedded in them to pass across information in different forms. Meme is evolving to the point that it has become a voice for the people in the digital world, it can be used for political activism, to criticize, inclusivity, accessibility and to socially communicate.

One common feature of memes is that there are millions of these digital pictures that suits a particular kind of community for instance Christianity, sex, students, love, lifestyle and so on. You will definitely find one that suits your personality or topic of discussion.

It is no longer news that the Meme culture is a powerful form of digital expression through its creative forms of passing across messages. Even in our modern world, the use of memes is not restricted to just the youth, our elders who have access to smartphones and communication through social media forms like Facebook and WhatsApps have Incorporated the use of memes to pass across messages. One day I was chatting with my mother and I was surprised to see a meme that portrayed a funny reaction to my question, to be honest it actually lightened the conversation and the mood as well.

In other words, the employment of Memes in our daily conversations has become one of the most effective tools for pass humor. I remember during the last presidential election in Nigeria, we had a lot of memes either supporting a particular political party or criticizing the government over their failure to make the country great. It was an interesting period where Nigerians brought out their creativity by using the pictures and failed words of the aspirants against them. One viable thing about memes is that it can be used either positively or negatively. These could be in form of a captioned image with specific theme, or a practical joke.

Memes have been incorporated into the way we communicate in this digital age and most of them are used because they tend to lighten the mood of the conversation and pass messages that might be too deep. Hence, the basic features of memes are humor, sarcasm, or absurdity. Thy have advantages such as, transcending language barriers through visual storytelling, popularity, convey complexity in simpler forms, brings about creativity and so on.

In conclusion, memes are one of the most popular ways to pass messages across in humorous way, either by picture of videos with inscriptions. They are very relatable especially with people who have idea or knowledge of what is been said,bringing about a kind of connection and ability to say Lesser than it's needed.
