Christmas is an important day for me, my family, and the majority of people in the world. It is an era when, it seems, everyone is happier, the weather is nicer, and there is more of a sharing of love than there usually is. I feel a lot of Christmas joy because it allows the family to reunite and reminisce about moments that could easily have been forgotten. It is no longer a party to me, it should be, love, appreciation, and the spirit of giving which encompasses all aspect of life.
On Christmas morning, we wake up early. We are the first to pray as a family. We bless God for life, love, and family. After that, we start preparing for the day. The kitchen is generally the busiest room, since there is so much to cook. Everyone helps out. There are some peeling yams and potatoes, there are others washing rice, and there are some marination of meat and chicken, etc. The aroma of spices and food spills out into the room and it already feels as if already a meal is served, before we start to eat.
The best thing about Christmas is to cook some special food. The every day of the week, though we consume ordinary food, it is more special on Christmas Day. We also prepare fried rice, jollof rice, pepper soup, grilled chicken, and many others. It's always going to be plenty to eat and it's even more lovingly made, as we intend to share it with neighbours and friends.
If the food is cooked, we put some of it into a container and make deliveries to our neighbours. It's lovely to see the faces smile as plates are round up to them. Even neighbours support us by delivering food to us and it's very nice and touching. There is always so much to eat and share.
We all gather in the evening to reminisce, joke and see films. Sometimes, we listen to Christmas songs or play games. It is during these moments that I feel the true meaning of Christmas being surrounded by people who love and care for you.
Merry Christmas, all of you, perhaps to each of us this Christmas has come to be more lovely due to the act of giving. We're always there to assist someone who may have very little. It may be a neighbors, a friend, or a passerby. This reminds me that Christmas is not just about enjoying food or gifts but also about being kind and bringing joy to others.
For me, the Christmas season is the best time of year. It brings me back to the meaning of family, of love, of of service. It is a day that makes me happy, thankful and joyful, and I can't wait for it.
