Yesterday was Christmas eve, and everywhere you turn, there were lights, music, and a festive buzz that fills the air. But here is an unpopular opinion, I don’t celebrate Christmas, Before you rush to conclusions, let me share my perspective—and it is not just personal preference, my perspective on this issue is one that is rooted in reflection and understanding from what the bible says and what I have found from personal researches.

What Does the Bible Say?
As I studied the Bible more I came across somethings that completely shifted my perspective on the issue.
In the Bible book of Luke 22:19-20, Jesus did not ask us to remember His birth. Instead, He specifically asked us to commemorate His death, through what many Christians now call the Lord’s Supper. It’s His sacrifice—His death—that brought hope to mankind. And for me, that’s the heart of Christianity, every other thing we do revolves around that display of love.

His birth was miraculous, yes, but His death and resurrection are where the power lies. Without His sacrifice, there would be no hope for humanity, given what our first parents brought upon us. And that’s what Jesus wanted us to focus on—not the day He was born, but what He accomplished for us through his death and resurrection.
The Issue with December 25
Here’s another thing I discovered: the Bible doesn’t exactly say that Jesus was born on December 25—or any date, for that matter. Come to think of it the bible does say that shepherds were outside with their sheep at the time of his birth, and now we do know that around those days, December was a usually cold time , for shepherds to graze their animals, In fact, many historians believe He was likely born during a different time of the year entirely.
So why December 25? History shows that it was chosen centuries after Christ’s death, partly to coincide with Roman pagan festivals like Saturnalia. This way, so that Christianity could replace existing traditions. But when you think about it, celebrating a date with no biblical basis feels like missing the mark. And it doesn’t seem to align with biblical principles.

Jesus Is No Longer a Baby
I also see Christmas celebration banners often portraying Jesus as a baby in a manger. While it might at first appear to be a beautiful scene, it’s not the full picture. The Bible reminds us in Luke 1:32-33 that Jesus is now a powerful king, reigning in heaven. Fixating on His infancy feels like overlooking His current position and authority.
For me, the focus isn’t mainly on where He started, but where He is now—and what that means for all of us.

What I Choose Instead
While I don’t celebrate Christmas, that doesn’t mean I ignore Jesus’ significance. On the contrary, I use this season to reflect on His life, His death, and the hope He offers. Instead of focusing on decorations or gifts, I take this time to dive deeper into the scriptures, meditate on His sacrifice, and remind myself of the bigger picture.

It’s not about being “against” Christmas—it’s about staying true to what the Bible teaches and what feels right for my faith.
I know this perspective might not be popular, especially in a season where celebrations are everywhere. But for me, it’s not about following traditions just because they’re there. It’s about aligning my practices with my beliefs.

So, as you celebrate or reflect this season, I encourage you to think about why you do what you do. Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, the important thing is to focus on —His sacrifice, His kingship, and the hope He brings to the world.

And isn’t that what really matters.?

This is my entry to the ongoing #decemberinleo, where fello hivers can get post ideas and interpret them as they deem fit, you can join now, there’s still them.
