Mighty Sleaford Maltings.

in Drone6 days ago

This amazing location is a group of eight identical, disused malt houses was originally owned by the Bass Brewery based in Burton upon Trent.
The site is Grade II listed and believed to be the largest group of malt houses in England, taking six years to build.

In the 1800's, Bass was the largest brewer in the world. It had a few plants which naturally opened doors for improved production output and efficiency over the decades. So much so that it prompted the closure of the the Sleaford maltings in 1959.

Since the closure, it has been used to rear poultry in the late 20th century, with a huge fire in 1976 that caused severe damage to three of the malthouses.

Since 2005, the area is believed to still be under review by the local council and private companies to regenerate it with flats and shops.

There was a second fire in 2014 that was deemed malicious after an investigation from the fire department.

Fire damage aside, the variety of deterioration throughout the whole site is quite striking.

Much like my previous post, this area is completely abandoned so I could fly with so much freedom separation wise and admittedly took a huge risk of bird strike flying low but the results are well worth it!

I would love to go back again either after snow fall or on a summers day should I be up north again. A local even asked me 'what on earth even bought you to Sleaford?!' to which I mentioned I was flying so she told me some history about the place.

Until the next time!
