Paradise on Kodiak Island

in Drone3 months ago (edited)

Hello Drone Community,

As we move north at a rapid pace, we finally have trees—actual trees! But this particular bay not only offered amazing views but also a sauna and a beautiful freshwater lake to cool off in.

After receiving this recommendation from some local sailors, we didn’t waste any time and headed further north to visit this remote but stunning location, realistically accessible only by seaplane or your own boat.

We had a sporty trip getting up here, averaging 7-8 knots with 30 knots of wind on the side—perfect conditions that turned the usually 9-hour trip into a 6-hour one. It was so good to have some proper sailing, really enjoyable even though we were being thrown around.

We left pretty late but arrived by 2200, which enabled us to still have some light as we entered the anchorage, always reassuring. In the morning, we had amazing sunshine and went for a little hike on land. It wasn’t long before we were greeted by Kodiak bears feeding on salmon, which was just jumping into their mouths. We tried to ignore all the "Danger Bears" signs just to get a glimpse of how they catch the salmon.

Eventually, some bears came around and showed us how it’s done. We filled the freezer with fresh salmon and are ready to move on to see some glaciers. I wish we could stay longer, but there’s just too much to see and many more miles to cover.
