This last weekend was our second weekend in a row at Big Bear Lake. The weekend before was pretty warm and we were skiing in spring conditions. You can see what it looked like in one of my last posts here. I thought that was going to be our last snowboard trip to Big Bear this season, but on the following Wednesday and Thursday it snowed around 2 feet of new snow and I decided to go up again on Friday. When we got there everything looked completely different, snow was covering almost everything again and it looked like winter again. Me and my son had a blast on the slopes, and I also took my drone to get some aerial shots.
I have already done a drone flight there over two years ago, and I posted here. That one was at the start of a dry winter, not a lot of snow. It was around sunset, and I took off with my drone from a different spot of the lake then last weekend. At the time I had a DJI Mini 2.
This season was also a very dry early winter, but recently we've been getting some snow, and like I said I got there the day after a big storm. So this time you will see a completely different landscape, with snow covering almost everything. This time I took off in the morning from a different spot, and it was closer to the local airport. There was some restrictions to take off, and I could see planes frying pretty low in that area (you can see one plane in one of the pictures). My idea was not to fly too high near my take off point at the lake, go towards Snow Summit Ski Resort, and go a little higher over there to take pictures of the resort. Snow Summit Ski Resort was 3km away from my take off point, but it was a clear view without obstacles. I find it super cool to be able to control a drone this far, I would never imagine this when I was a kid. These drones can go even further, but I think batteries are the limitation now.
I'm very pleased with the results I got. I have pictures having the lake with the resort in the back, and also pictures of the resort having the lake in the back, both came out beautiful. Lets check out the pictures!

Este último fim de semana foi nosso segundo fim de semana consecutivo em Big Bear Lake. O fim de semana anterior foi bem quente e estávamos esquiando em condições de primavera. Já fiz um voo de drone lá há mais de dois anos, e postei aqui. Esse voo foi no início de um inverno seco, sem muita neve. Foi por volta do pôr do sol, e eu decolei com meu drone de um ponto diferente do lago em relação ao fim de semana passado. Na época, eu tinha um DJI Mini 2.
Essa temporada também foi um início de inverno muito seco, mas recentemente temos tido um pouco mais de neve e, como eu disse, cheguei lá no dia seguinte a uma grande tempestade. Portanto, desta vez, você verá uma paisagem completamente diferente, com neve cobrindo quase tudo. Desta vez, decolei no inicio da manhã, de um local diferente, mais próximo do aeroporto local. Havia algumas restrições para decolar, e pude ver aviões voando bem baixo naquela área (é possível ver um avião em uma das fotos). Minha ideia era não voar muito alto perto do meu ponto de decolagem no lago, ir em direção ao Snow Summit Ski Resort e subir um pouco mais para tirar fotos do resort. O Snow Summit Ski Resort ficava a 3 km de distância do meu ponto de decolagem, mas tinha uma visão clara e sem obstáculos. Acho muito legal poder controlar um drone tão longe, nunca imaginei que isso seria possível quando era criança. Esses drones podem ir ainda mais longe, mas acho que as baterias são a limitação agora.
Estou muito satisfeito com os resultados que obtive. Tenho fotos com o lago e o resort ao fundo, e também fotos do resort com o lago ao fundo, ambas ficaram lindas. Vamos dar uma olhada nas fotos!
