Today I am going to tell you about my experience working as a Chef in a restaurant north of my city. For those who don't know, I am a Chef with a specialization in pastry, that is my passion. At that time I was out of work so when I saw the ad I immediately applied, but far was I from imagining that soon I would end up regretting it in the sense that the work there was excessive, the staff had to enter at 11 am and finish at 2:30 and sometimes until 3:00 am 😱, although honestly I had to remind them that when they did the interview they told me that the schedule was from 2: 00 pm with no fixed time to leave, so after imposing me they accepted to leave me that schedule, still it was extremely exhausting, they had very few staff due to the low salary, so when rush time came (that's how they call it when too many orders come in) it was stressful, and we had to work double, sometimes being only two chefs in the kitchen, To make matters worse, I was also assigned the task of making desserts and on one occasion my boss (a despot who used to mistreat the staff, although he didn't do it with me because I was willing to denounce him) offered me money to tell him that the staff was talking behind his back, I know, he was a paranoid and unhinged guy.
Hoy voy a hablarles de mi experiencia trabajando como Chef en un restaurante hacia el norte de mi ciudad. Para quienes no lo saben, soy Chef con una especialización en pastelería, esa es mi pasión. En ese entonces yo estaba sin trabajo así que cuando vi el anuncio enseguida me postulé, pero lejos estaba yo de imaginar que al poco tiempo terminaría arrepintiéndome en el sentido de que el trabajo allí era excesivo, el personal debía entrar a las 11 am y terminar a las 2:30 y a veces hasta las 3:00 am 😱, aunque honestamente yo tuve que recordarles que cuando me hicieron la entrevista me dijeron que el horario era desde las 2:00 pm sin hora fija de salida, así que luego de imponerme aceptaron dejarme ese horario, aún así era sumamente agotador, tenían muy poco personal debido al salario bajo, así que cuando llegaba la hora del rush (así se le llama al momento en que entran demasiados pedidos) era estresante, y teníamos que trabajar el doble, a veces siendo solo dos chef en la cocina, para colmo también me asignaron la tarea de realizar postres y en una ocasión mi jefe (un tipo déspota que solía maltratar al personal, aunque conmigo no lo hizo porque yo estaba dispuesta hasta denunciarlo) me ofreció dinero para que le dijera que hablaba el personal a sus espaldas, lo sé, era un tipo paranoico y desquiciado.
All that exhausted me plus the pace of work, the lack of sleep, the constant conflicts between the boss and the clients or staff (often to the point of offering punches) had me mentally exhausted until I decided to quit. That was not my environment, I did not like it and I had no reason to endure that situation, however I had great experiences working there, life lessons and even friendships, I got along very well with the staff, we got to go to parties, clubs and even the beach, but all this in the early morning, after work, as it was our only time of freedom.
Todo eso me agotaba más el ritmo de trabajo, la falta de sueño, los constantes conflictos entre el jefe y los clientes o el personal (muchas veces llegaba hasta el punto de ofrecer puñetazos) me tenía mentalmente agotada hasta que decidí renunciar. Ese no era mi entorno, no me gustaba y no tenía porqué soportar esa situación, no obstante me quedaron grandes experiencias trabajando allí, lecciones de vida y hasta amistades, me llevaba muy bien con el personal, llegamos a ir a fiestas, clubes e incluso la playa, pero todo esto en la madrugada, después de trabajar, ya que era nuestro único momento de libertad.
Of course in addition to that I also gained experience and more skill with those intense rushes, but as I have always said, it is not necessary to work under stress if people know how to organize themselves well and if you have the staff you need, you can never have only two or one chef working for a high demand restaurant. My magic moment was when I had to dedicate myself only to desserts, I felt in my element, happy and relaxed, so I could give myself total freedom to create as I pleased.
Claro además de eso también gané experiencia y más destreza con esos intensos rush, pero tal como siempre he dicho, no es necesario trabajar bajo estrés si la gente sabe organizarse bien y si tienes el personal que necesitas, nunca puedes tener solo dos o un chef trabajando para un restaurante de alta demanda. Mi momento mágico era cuando me tocaba dedicarme únicamente a los postres, me sentía en mi elemento, feliz y relajada, así que podía darme total libertad para crear a mi gusto.
Today fortunately I am in a better place, thank God, it is not perfect, because no place really is, but I am in better conditions, nobody yells at each other, there is no stress, we all work at our own pace, there is respect and the schedule is wonderful, I don't have to work at dawn, but from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm and also, the best of all is that I work as a pastry chef only 😍 so I am very grateful to God for this opportunity.
Hoy en día afortunadamente estoy en un lugar mejor, gracias a Dios, no es perfecto, porque ningún lugar realmente lo es, pero estoy en mejores condiciones, nadie se grita, no hay estrés, todos trabajamos a nuestro ritmo, existe el respeto y el horario es maravilloso, no tengo que trabajar de madrugada, sino de 7:00 am a 4:00 pm y además, lo mejor de todo es que trabajo como pastelera únicamente 😍 así que estoy muy agradecida con Dios por esta oportunidad.
