MY EARLIEST DAYS IN DOPAMA

It was sometime around February 2023 that I set off for Benue State, a state in the north central region of Nigeria. The purpose was for the national youth service program which is kind of composary for every Nigeria graduate. I have published trow backs here in the community with respect to my experiences during this same national youth service program. Nevertheless, these ones are quite distinct as they have to do with my earliest days in the service. All thanks to Google, the pictures that popped up on my screen after I logged in to my Google account on my new phone brought back these amazing memories.

THE FIREWOOD EXPERIENCE

On getting to the community of passing brother for my service proper, I met two amazing gentlemen; Freeman and Jonathan. Sha was the third man on the list as he latter joined us after he came back from his travel. There were as at then in lounge, just gentlemen. Although Passbrother was a village, the electricity problem prevalent in most parts of the country was never a concern for them. That very fact caused us to completely depend on electricity for everything including cooking. It was the day that electricity disappointed that we had our first firewood experience. We had to donate cups of rice alongside beans and other ingredients, cooked in one pot and eat together. Jecob the most admired cook in the house was our chef for the day and the food turned out absolutely well even with the fact that it was made with very little ingredient.

MY FIRST BOAT EXPERIENCE

The Local Government Area that I served was very vast. We always had to cross the river each time we were to reach the local government secretariat. This time, we were going for training with respect to the upcoming general election which we were to anchor. The river Benue was almost dried as at that time but we still found a way to ride through. At some point, the boat driver would have to pull the boat out of the sandy hill using a long bamboo stick. This was done as often as we encountered such situations, as the river had almost dried up due to the dry season. Not withstanding all of these, the journey was an interesting experience as we got to our destination safely.

MY FIRST MEETING WITH MY PUPILS

This was my second day in Dopama Model School. On the first day, I only met the principal as the students had already gone home before my arrival. They were more friendly and adorable than I imagined as we even took pictures together. I have already shared my experience with Dopama Model School here in the community, and saying more would be unnecessary repetition. However, this is to acknowledge how I was warmly welcomed children I had never met in my life. It was indeed an unforgettable experience.

Teaching is something I love doing and seeing these pictures reminded me of a time I used to teach to little ones like this. It's not easy o😅

There is really joy in teaching, that I have learnt too. It was my first teaching experience and it was really interesting
