Insospechada Visita a las Cataratas del Niágara
Hola amigos,
Hello friends,
I recently subscribed to this community because it seemed appropriate to share some memories.
Every day, I am grateful to be part of Hive. This is not just an affirmation, but a source of motivation for me. Through creating content, I've unearthed moments that hold significance in my life, moments I hadn't deemed transcendental. Occasionally, I've shared tales of my visits to various places in and outside Cuba with friends. Years back, due to work obligations, I journeyed to Toronto, Canada. Recently, I stumbled upon photos from that trip, particularly our weekend excursion to Niagara Falls. The thrill of the invitation remains vivid in my memory.
My knowledge of the Falls was limited to school Geography classes, mentioning their visibility from both Canada and the United States. It seemed like an unattainable dream. The Cuban families in Toronto, overseeing Cuba's commercial office, graciously extended the invitation to my boss and me. On a pleasant Sunday, we basked in the ambient air near the Falls, feeling the misty humidity. The anticipation of witnessing nature's grandeur was palpable. From Toronto, the resplendent cascade of Niagara Falls was visible. As we approached the viewpoint barrier, I could sense the gentle spray on my face. The sheer force of the falls left me awestruck, an indescribable experience that remains etched in my memory.
A plaque on the wall, visible in the photo, pays tribute to the Cuban poet José María Heredia, author of "Oda Al Niágara." This poet, born in Cuba but exiled for many years, eloquently expressed his love for his homeland amidst the falls' roaring might. While we had the option to descend and sail behind the falls in a small boat, I hesitated due to fear. The falls are truly magnificent. Illuminated at night, they present an unparalleled spectacle, though their true splendour shines through during the day.
We explored the park, situated 6.2 miles from the falls, a vast expanse of beauty.
The gardens boasted an array of flowers, including multicoloured tulips, with the standout being the Flower Clock, adorned with 16,000 flowers. This clock, one of the world's largest, was constructed in 1950 and undergoes biannual redesigns. Blooming from April to September, it welcomes visitors round the clock.
Forty-two years have elapsed since my visit, when I was a youthful 29. My fascination with these memories and photos endures. For those who've recently visited Niagara Falls, I'm eager to hear about your adventures and discoveries. Join me at the wall and delve into the world of one of Spanish America's most romantic poets of that era.

I am sorry to tell you that I have not recently traveled to Niagara Falls. I only traveled once and it was on Marilyn Monroe's hand, a movie trip. I was touched by the photos, they brim with happiness, oh, the memories! A hug @mamani
That family I will always remember gave me the opportunity to see those falls, an incredible spectacle.
The photos keep a memory intact But don't lose hope to go and you won't regret it. Always so attentive. Greetings.🥰🤗

What an experience, Mamani! You were lucky but also deserved that visit to Niagara Falls! 🥂 I have never visited it, so I can't share with you my adventures there 😁
It's a pity you couldn't visit them, but you will be able to do it any time you set your mind to it. And I'm sure it will be for you something extraordinary as I felt at that moment. They are breathtaking. I suggest you read the poem Ode to Niagara by José María Heredia. And let me know what you think of it. Thank you @mipiano.🥰🤗😴
I have read it now, I searched for it online. That is a long and powerful poem, I also read that it was his longing for Cuba.
The theme of the poem is very topical today, albeit for different reasons. And it happens daily all over the world, not only in Cuba. Thank you for reading it. Have a nice weekend, 😍😴.
What a beautiful experience, a trip to the past, 42 years ago, how wonderful and beautiful how you manage to remember it in such detail. That shows that it was a dream and unforgettable trip ❤️
That's how it was. I was a recent graduate and had just returned from the USSR a year ago. It was a surprise for me to be sent to work in Canada and visit the falls. I would never have dreamed of it, how could I forget it. Thank you, my friend, you always dedicate your time to me. Greetings to your mommy.🥰🤗
