It is not easy to find the right words to start this post. Seeing these photos when my son was still a toddler, so small that I was carrying him around in my arms and now he is a young man already... I know that years are passing so quickly, and although there is always something that gives the signs that our bodies are paying the bill, I don't feel old.
That is true that my knee aches when I go hiking, and my neck hurts when I sit for too much time. My migraines come and go when they want, but I could again conquer the hills and mountain peak of this beast - Zlatibor. We could do it twenty years ago, ten years ago and could do it right now. If it would be close to me... but we would need to drive 2.700 km to arrive there. Today we have to stay with these photos taken in 2008.
Visiting Zlatibor is always a blessing, there is snow during the winter... but if you ask me, summer is the perfect time to spend there a week or two. The fresh air of this mountain is much more enticing than the heat of concrete in the city. Also, spending some time in a rural area like this makes you think do we need all the things we have? After our second visit to Zlatibor we were thinking wouldn't it be great to live there and have a simpler life?
You can even meet some sheep, goats or cows by the road. We were heading toward an open-air museum, Old Village when we saw these cows. The photo was taken from the car. 😁
When we arrived at the museum, there was a board at the entrance showing the facilities of Old Village. The tickets were quite cheap, and I also bought some postcards from that place.
We had two cameras, and my husband was in charge of taking the photos. I think the difference between the good camera and the average one can be seen. Btw, that average little Canon broke exactly that summer, in Zlatibor. It fell to the pavement in one unlucky moment 🙄
I suppose that almost every village in Serbia has at least one church. This simple but pretty church is dedicated to the holy apostles Peter and Paul.
Old Village open-air museum shows us how life in this hilly and mountainous area of the Dinaric region looked like in the past. We could see this interesting style, the architecture and also the interior of the buildings. There were homes but also workshops that displayed the tools and the way the business was done.
There were several different types of roofs and all of them were very interesting. We saw stone roofs (it can be seen in one of the photos) but many more roofs were made of wood.
I think this woman and her baby liked the porch of this home, however, if you read this post it means they didn't stay there forever. She is now in the front of the screen, writing the words you read.
I entered one of the homes, yes. It was interesting to see the way how the rooms were equipped and for example, the kitchen. But the conditions were more difficult, that is sure.
My son found fun and you know how children are - they would play with everything.
You also see how small he was, but he liked to stroll around the homes and facilities of this open-air museum. When he got tired, either I or my husband would carry him in our arms. Alternately. You can recognize maybe whose turn was this :)
Although there were many interesting things to touch and the eyes of a little toddler could observe this beautiful environment, the favourite activity of my son was playing with the water.
The mountain, nature, traditions, air, food... Everything has healing effects and moreover, if you find bee hives and honey. These bee hives were just part of the museum's display, but I remember we bought honey from the local beekeepers.
I hope that the tradition of beekeeping has been preserved on this mountain to this day because that honey was great. Maybe one day I could visit Zlatibor again, although it would be difficult to carry my son in my arms. He is already a head taller than me.
Nevertheless, it was nice to remember this visit to Sirogojno Old Village and bring it to this edition of Throwback Thursday.
It's clear the love for this place runs deep, and your son's laughter echoes through the photos.
Time may fly, but the memories remain like precious gems. And who knows, maybe one day you'll conquer that mountain peak together again, just a little taller and wiser. ♀️ Until then, savor these photos and hold onto the magic of Zlatibor. ✨

Interesting concept of this open air museum. The place is beautiful. Nature is always healing, no matter where in the world it is.
Of course you can always climb the mountain, even if you have to go slower, the important thing is to get there XD.

Where my mom lives there are many people who live in very similar conditions nowadays, maybe for other reasons, but their life is much simpler and I think they are somehow happy the way they live even though they lack many comforts of modern life.
Yep - even if my knee was hurting the other day from hiking hahaha, but I know that we would master this hiking thing with a bit of practice 😁
We are probably spoiled with the comfort that modern life gives us, but we humans have the great ability to adapt - I am sure within a few days we would be able to live again in a simpler way, happy, without the internet, without Hive (😱 - oh, that would be difficult in the beginning)
It would be very difficult without Hive 🤣🤣🤣🤣. What happens is that usually people living in those conditions don't know other things, their life is happy as it is. The bad thing is when they discover that beyond there is another world full of other things, then it gets complicated 😆.
We need training, this sedentary modern life kills our knees and other body parts 🤣. I celebrated my birthday climbing a mountain, well...a small mountain 🤭. I got very tired to the top, I have to do a post about it but I've been very busy. That day I understood that we have to do something urgent with the training to keep us in a healthy shape.😄

I went to my physiotherapist the other day and he enrolled me on pilates lessons that would start in January if the group were formed. Like mandatory, he didn't let me have much choice hahaha
That's great!! It's best that he left you no choice, if it's your decision you may never do it. XD

It was not easy to start the post, but you have been able to narrate with great precision and with beautiful memories, everything you wrote. The photos are spectacular and it was great to see you in your role as a mother with your little one at that time.
Those hills are impressive, I would also question the fact of living there forever away from everything or at least for a good season, because I think we all need something like that, disconnected from phones and technology in general.
From what you say, the weather seasons are great, in fact you can tell that it is a humid environment, it reminds me a lot of the mountains that surround the municipality where I live. At night that place must be scary now hehe, but I imagine it decorated for Christmas and it must be incredible.

That mountain is so fresh, even during the summer you have to cover yourself with a thick duvet when you go to sleep haha. And the food, oh how much we could eat there, as the air opened the appetite.

What a beautiful post! Why aren't there places like this in Venezuela? 😭 Well, here there are other natural beauties, but never like this, and if it falls nine in winter it must get much better. It's nice the idea of living a quieter life away from the city and vanities, but surely it will have its rural hardships too. That woman and the baby in the photos are beautiful models for this post hehe, all that was missing was a black and white piano like the fur of the cows to accompany this reading with music. You always bring amazing posts my friend, you know I admire you 😍

That mipianito was cute there my god. I can't look at anything else. Well yes, those are honeycombs, you say... well, I love honey. Will be condensed milk there? Because if there are those two things and what I need to make soup, I would go to Zlatibor for a season to wait for the snow. Of course only on a short trip to take pictures of those landscapes. The coolest little house of those, the one with the little garden next to it I borrow it.

This open air museum looks similar to what we have in Sibiu. It's been undergoing some renovation work but should be ready soon.
There are really beautiful places out there in that region, I have never been to Sibiu, but it can be changed one day 😇
I don't remember being in such a museum, I really like the concept. The house you show inside looks like the kitchen of the farm that my grandparents kept, I have eaten in caldrons put on the fire like that. And yes, life was much more uncomfortable.

I love nature and even more when it is like this without much human intervention. On the other hand beekeeping is a beautiful activity, bees are primordial for life on earth.

I was born in the north of Serbia, so the landscape there is a bit different. Danube, plain, fields 😉 My husband always mentions that we should go to Zlatibor when we are there, (it is just once a year we go) though we always stay with families and friends. There are long distances to be covered 😅
I understand! And for me, when I go to the house where I grew up I prefer to stay with relatives, and friends no more than to visit different tourist areas in the surroundings... although every year I plan to do that.

Because I am of Hungarian origin, but born in Serbia, actually it was Yugoslavia before the war. And now we are in Spain, haha, I know, it all sounds complicated but it is interesting :D

Zlatibor has experienced great popularity since the time you stayed with your family, and along with that, a large number of new buildings are being built.
But you can still find a place where the human hand has not yet caused damage to nature.
I, from Serbia, remember my travels in Spain (and I dream of when I will visit your beautiful country again), and you, from Spain, remember staying on the mountain that I occasionally visit here 😁
I know, Zlatibor changed. It became popular and so many new buildings appeared, both in the city and in the countryside. Your country is partly my country too, but I don't live there right now ;)
Whoa, that's a pretty and peaceful place, I love the simplicity of it, feels like they are still loving in the past with those old style housing and even some of their appliances. If I have a choice I will surely choose this place to live in.
It was peaceful there, but since so many years passed things changed a bit there too. It became a quite popular tourist destination, but I am sure some of these calm corners can be still found :)

What a beautiful place, all nature and divine constructions, I loved that open air museum, so unique and different. What a beautiful experience, your child looks very happy and how could he not be with such a beautiful place. These are the most memorable places for anyone at any age ❤️
He was happy and we were happy too to see how he enjoyed the experience. The year after this we went again, he was one year older and already walked a lot more, and climbed a hill on his foot. It was always a joy to spend time there. I also suppose there are cute and wise owls in those mountains :))

How I love this post. I love the study of heritage. That place is a reminder of how people lived at a certain time in history. I would like to know how the farmers around there live, do they keep the traditions of beekeeping, wood construction ?

It is a good reminder of the past. It is a beautifully preserved place. How different the European buildings are from the American ones, especially the tropical ones.
