First Impressions of Krakow in Autumn 2023

in Throwback Thursday β€’ 6 days ago

This wasn't that long time ago, but so many things happened in the meantime that it looks like it was ages ago... πŸ™‚ When it was only a bit more than a year from the legendary #HiveBeeCon in Krakow! I remember when we were there, and after the event, that I saw at least 2 posts that had the same thumbnail as the one that I did too... And I did it on purpose... πŸ™‚

Having @hallmann as a guest in the #HHHLive show last week brought some nice memories, so I searched my photo database for some unpublished photos from Krakow! As I already did a HiveBeeCon recap post where I published only a few, I knew that there should be more somewhere...

01.jpg

It looks corny, it is like buying something ridiculous souvenir at the shop, in your teenage excursion, but still... It is a memory... When we landed in Poland (for the first time in my life), after reaching the terminal on the way out, this sign was the first thing that welcomed us! I didn't know that after just a couple of days spent in this great city, I will say the same words... I love Krakow!

02.jpg

As we knew that we would have an excursion to the Salt Mines in Wieliczka, I noticed this huge banner I thought that's the place we will visit... But, this was another underground attraction that we didn't visit... Maybe next time... As there will be next time... Krakow is awesome and it lures you to pay another visit...

03.jpg

The good thing about Krakow is that when you come by plane, you can reach the train station without leaving the airport building... Very convenient, especially if the weather is bad...

04.jpg

Luckily, the weather was perfect that day! After almost a 3-hour flight, we arrived relatively early... It was 10 AM when we were waiting for the train to the city... As we were informed that we could enter our accommodation earlier, we unpacked our things, and hit the streets of Krakow!

05.jpg

I didn't visit Poland before, but I did visit Hungary and some of the buildings and streets reminded me of it... Also, it can be compared with Spain... For example, compared to some Spanish cities, Krakow is different as it has some huge squares, but also it has narrow streets too... So, it is like a perfect mix...

06.jpg

07.jpg

I suppose that there is a film festival in the city, as we saw many of these memorial plaques, probably with the names and handprints of the winners in specific years...

08.jpg

09.jpg

There were many, but I took photos of those that I recognized... My wife took a chance to compare her hand with Claudia Cardinale's handprint! Perfect fit! πŸ˜ƒ

10.jpg

11.jpg

12.jpg

As we had no idea about the city at that point, we were just strolling around without any specific point, but rather relaxing after the flight, taking clear breaths, and trying to grasp as much as possible from Krakow!

13.jpg

14.jpg

15.jpg

An interesting facade of this building reminded me of Lisbon, as they had some interesting facades there, not painted like this, but rather covered by relief (stone or ceramic) panels...

16.jpg

17.jpg

The castle from a couple of photos above was at one end of the city, almost at the river banks, so we made a U-turn to go back to the city... If I remember well, we were messaging others who arrived before, arranging the first meetup in one local cafe... On the way there, we found another great cafe/restaurant completely covered in plants and flowers...

18.jpg

Before meeting our Hivian friends, we took a last look at the Holy Trinity Church and its beautiful architecture in Gothic style... According to Wikipedia, its history dates from the year 1223!!

That would be all for this #TBT post, remembering some great times spent in Krakow with a great company of fantastic Hivians!

Thank you for your time,

--ph--

I forgot that I placed my hand there, on Claudia's handprint, thank you for the reminder πŸ˜‡ Oh, I remember I was so hungry during this stroll, we were searching for a bakery or else with @edje, so that is why I ate the whole apple pie by myself πŸ˜‚ when we met @livinguktaiwan and her husband!

Weehoo! Claudia's hands! Did she master the piano? Perhaps a talent she never discovered?
Anyway, she was amongst my favourite actresses back in the day. I think I watched many movies. Uhm, thinking of it, perhaps she wasn't so much one of my most favourite actresses, but she simply played in many important movies in the 60s and 70s. Many I saw on German television in the 80s. They ran all those movies late at night.
Hahahaha either searching for Cake or Edje πŸ˜† Regardless, I had a great time with you and your hubby!

Searched for a cake and I got a son πŸ˜‚

πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜† and happy about it 🎢

You have a reputation now, it's no use trying to defend why you ate a massive apple pie all by yourself πŸ˜„

Oh, but who had a cheesecake this morning? 😁
(truth be said, he shared it with me...)

I think that everyone remembers that incident very well... You ate it all alone, while the rest of us had to watch... 😜

Hahaha, I politely offered to share my pie. And everyone politely refused hahaha so I had no choice ;P

One day. I really hope, to be able and be at Krakow. An historical city and remarkable as well

It is a very beautiful city, filled with a lot of history...
If you have a change, don't hesitate to visit it! You will not regret it!

Wow, you have photos! Or did you mention you had almost no pictures of Hamburg? Donno anymore, it doesn't matter. Krakow was a super nice place to visit! And am glad I did; Was the first time we met in real life.
Was great fun!

Krakow was great fun and I enjoyed every single day your company, and the company of other great peeps... I have to say that of all the Hive meetups that I attended, that was probably the best, with the best people around!

Hamburg was also nice, but I was a disaster... lol... That stress about the presentation, that Vietnamese food on the first night was a big mistake... lol... Because of all that, I didn't take many photos there... πŸ˜ƒ

Anyway, every next meetup is better... HiveFest in Split was also great, and I felt very well... I hope I will be able to attend the BuzzParty in Graz next year...

Nah, Hamburg wasn't that bad? And as I told you, your preso was great! But yeah, I know the adrenaline rush that can happen before some performance. But it's all good, likely made your stage time better.

I must have photographs somewhere, though also not a lot since I never take a lot of photographs. Perhaps I shall look into Throwbacks and actual participation. Am contemplating writing a (little) blogpost about a movie I recently saw. Such an overly complex and bad one while IMDB is still giving it a kind of ok-ish rate. But that aside.

Enjoy your Sunday. And see you next time on an HIVE thingy, orrrrrrr perhaps this year I shall enjoy some Spain summer. Let's see how this can be arranged.

Writing a long post about a bad movie? Is it worth the time to do it? Usually, I just move on when I watch a bad movie... Don't want to waste additional time on it... πŸ˜‚

Thanks! It was a nice Sunday... Chilled out... Btw. Are you coming to visit us this year, or are you making plans for next summer? πŸ™‚

Ah. . maybe oneday we can have some of our handprint on those famous street so people will know that we are from Hive.

That look like a great walk my friend, so many amazing building

The most important people in the world! The first Hivians! πŸ˜ƒ

Hi friend, I hope you are doing well, the photos are fantastic; just yesterday I was watching videos on Youtube of Christmas decorations in different countries on the other side of the world and I came across Poland and some cities. It is a beautiful country and I loved that gothic style church, I love gothic architecture and art.

I liked the streets you showed and their atmosphere, you are right when you say that it shares similarities with other large European cities. I hope one day to be able to see all this with my own eyes and not through videos hehe πŸ˜…... A warm hug for you and your wife πŸ™ŒπŸ˜€πŸ’›... You Rockkk!!! πŸ‘πŸ˜ŽπŸ”₯πŸ“Έβ€οΈ

Thank you very much for your comment!

One of the best places to visit around Christmas is probably the special Christmas markets in Germany and Austria! I have a friend in Munich who sends me some great photos every year... We do have them in Spain too, but those in Germany are at another level :)

I hope one day to be able to see all this with my own eyes and not through videos hehe πŸ˜…

I hope you will!

Thanks for the greetings! All the best and have a great weekend!! πŸ’œ

Some lovely impressions of Krakow. I did drive there once but never visited the old square in the city.. what I do remember though is as we were approaching the city on the motorway, a huge yellow cloud of smog which gave my lungs a fright!

Oh, I didn't have the feeling that the city was heavily polluted... But, I know that it can be like that during the winter if many are using coal for heating... We were there before the winter season, so I suppose that we didn't experience that... Also, we found cheap accommodation very close to the city center and we didn't go too much outside it...

Another coincidence found - I was thinking about visiting the Underground Museum too, and missed it. Next time, hopefully. πŸ™ƒπŸ˜Š

Thanks for revoking great memories. It was incredible meetup! Say Hi from me to your wife! ❀️

We have to arrange a new meetup and put that visit on the agenda! πŸ˜ƒ

Thanks for the greetings! Have a great weekend! πŸ’œ

I also saw many photographs that made me think of Spain πŸ˜… My friend, it was delicious to read this post, you are excellent for the #tbt because your way of writing is full of anecdotes, affection and those photographs that are drawing a little imagination of those who read. I'm glad you had this experience and I remember that I missed you a little those days; I hope you come back soon and I'm sure you will continue to fall in love with more places there, traveling is beautiful, nothing better than delighting in what life has to offer us...

Thanks for creating this great community! Somehow, I was always overwhelmed by creating a recap post of my #HHHLive show on Thursdays and that's why I didn't post here... But, that has changed, as I mixed my days a bit... Will try to share more things in #tbt in the future...

Imagine Hivians rent a bus and organize, for example, a 1-month tour around Europe... and next year, something similar in Asia, or South America.. that would be fantastic... :)

Nice share! European buildings always look so cool, especially the historical ones.

It's amazing how some buildings are so beautiful and so old!
The house in my hometown still stands and it has now been over 100 years!!! But still looks good and healthy!

Wowwwww.... It's really a treat for my eyes to visit Karkow through your words and pictures. There is always a next time in life.... so next time you can visit salt mine over there.
Yes, these facades are beautiful. I am loving the architecture of the buildings from outside. The prints of hands.... I think whenever I will get chance, or life Will give me chance, I will also do the same to fit my hand.

so next time you can visit salt mine over there.

I did visit the salt mine but didn't visit the other underground museum, so I hope I will have a chance to do it the next time!

Thanks for checking out the post! πŸ’ͺ

It looks like a nice city to go to. I have never been there but I'll put it on the list of places that I want to in the future.

It is a nice city as it has a mixture of different cultures, and accommodation is relatively cheap... plus, the food is great!

Did you get to eat delicious Pierogi?

Oh, yes we did! And multiple times! πŸ˜‚

The best one that we ordered in The Kingdom, paid by HBD!!! πŸ’ͺ

That church isn't a big one, but the architecture is great!

Keep up the great work πŸ’ͺ

It seems a pretty cool and tidy city, I didn't expect that

It is a very nice city with a lot of different cultures colliding!

After exploring such a place our knowledge increases a lot and we get to learn a lot about the place which we didn't know before.
