My niece/daughter and a best friend arrived from Sioux Falls, South Dakota this past week, aka #TBT. She wanted to bring her friend to show her some of her favorite places where she grew up. We did our best to make her feel very welcome to our home.
I sent my husband to the airport with this sign to hold up as they walked down the terminal. When he saw them approaching, he started waving the card. Her friend Stephanie pointed and said, "Wow, there must have been someone important on the plane with us. " As they got closer, she got excited and said, "Oh my, that's us." I believe that moment made her feel special and welcomed.
Katie does her best to visit every few years, she considers us her parents more than an Uncle and Aunt.
The first thing on her agenda was to take her friend to "Powers Farm Market". It was her favorite place as a child and her grandparents always took her every October.
The market is huge and does an outstanding job every year to create a fun space for children and adults to enjoy a safe Halloween adventure. Let's go inside.
They have a great selection of fresh produce from local farms. The lower right photo is natural New York Maple syrup from the area, and oh boy, so tasty.
Check out the price on those small loaves of bread, wowza! If you want to put together a very nice gift basket for someone, this is the place to find many unique items.
There are so many fun things to buy and the packaging is cute and creative.
I believe this is the first year I have seen them put their name on a T-shirt. I must say, I liked them but did not get one for myself. Too spooky for me, lol.
As long as I can recall, and that is a long time, this witch and cauldron have sat next to the fireplace. I found an older photo of Katie taken on a previous visit and put them side-by-side. You can see that the witch has certainly aged over time.
Outside the lawn is covered in a sea of pumpkins that you walk through to reach the giant tepees. These are erected every year and house a vast variety of carved pumpkins.

It is pitch black inside the tepees and shelves of lit pumpkins reach to the top of them.
As the pumpkins deteriorate throughout the month, new ones are carved to replace them.
When you exit the last tepee it's lit up with fluorescent skeletons to the very top which are really fun for the kids.
This is part one of our visit to the farm market. In the next post, I will share the hay ride through the forest where they really do a fabulous job of scaring the bejevees out of you.

Hello my friend! Thank you so much for giving us this ride on Halloween, a date that is so special in your country that has transcended borders and others have learned to love it, but we have never experienced it as it is lived there. Your niece's happy face says it all, she enjoyed every moment of this ride, practically from the moment she got off the plane... I was very impressed that the witch is also getting older with time hahaha, how great, but in contrast your niece remains just as jovial as you. Thanks for sharing this post in the community, I really appreciate it 🙏

That’s a wonderful market for shopping lots of goodies. The decorations were very well done. I would have liked to spend a few hours there myself. So nice of you to look after the important guest so well!
