Hello, wholesome reader!
It's been a while since I last wrote for this travel series. That’s because I'm no longer connected with the person I was with during this trip, lol. Honestly, I considered not continuing this series, but I wanted to preserve the good memories I had on the island; something I might want to look back on in 2-3 years.
A little reminiscing probably won’t hurt, so here we go. Let me get you back on track. Last time, I shared my experience at the different springs on the island. Today, I’m going to take you on a virtual island hopping to two famous islets in Camiguin, White Island and Mantigue Island.
White Island
This is where the iconic landscape seen on almost every Camiguin poster can be found. Just five to ten minutes away from Camiguin mainland, White Island is completely bare; just a stretch of sand with no plants or trees growing on it.
Because of this, staying too long on the island might leave you sunburned, as there’s no shade at all, especially from late morning until the afternoon. The most recommended time to go see this island is between 6 AM to 8 AM, when the rays of the sun are not that harsh yet. Most visitors only stay for about 30 minutes before heading to their next destination.
I was able to reach the island around 7:30 AM and it already felt too hot! But despite the heat, I still enjoyed the view and how amazing nature really is! Here, enjoy some photos of me.
Mantigue Island
Located on the other side of Camiguin, across the town of Mambajao, is Mantigue Island. This island is larger than White Island and was once home to a small community.
Mantigue is a perfect diving spot, known for its beautiful corals and diverse marine life. The locals said that there have been many sightings of turtles swimming in the waters. And it actually got me excited!
Unfortunately, when I visited, the weather wasn’t great, so I wasn’t able to fully enjoy the sights beneath the sea. Although it was sunny, the waves were big enough to bring me back to the shore every time I attempt to swim towards the deep. Instead of exploring the ocean, I walked around the island and it took me around 15-30 minutes to completely circle around. Amazing!
Despite the changes in my personal life, revisiting these memories reminded me why I fell in love with Camiguin in the first place. Both White Island and Mantigue Island have their own unique charm—one offering a vast, sun-soaked landscape, and the other teeming with marine beauty.
Though my experience wasn’t perfect, especially with the unpredictable weather, the island still left a lasting impression on me. And who knows? Maybe one day, I’ll return with a new perspective and create even more unforgettable memories.
Until then, I hope this glimpse into my journey inspires you to explore the beauty of Camiguin for yourself.
Thank you for reading my post up to this point. I hope you have a great time ahead!
I'll take delight in writing for you again soon.
Love,
Sam ♡
