I decided to make the constellation with the images. The stars are iridescent silver...
The learning curve on making collage is steep. There are so many things to consider.
How to not have wrinkles and ripples? One cat claims keep everything as wet as possible... that kind of works.
Someone else says to put glue on the substrate, then wet the back of the thing to be glued and lay it on the substrate - no wrinkles.
that worked.
Then the other mistake I made was that I decided to glue the horse to a piece of vellum to give it a back because it was all taped together and cut out and falling apart - but then I had a white halo of vellum around the whole horse, so I had to go back in with a razor blade and trim it from the back to remove the vellum up to about an eighth of an inch from the edge, where I could. Very tricky.
Next, the background paper I made was very stiff, next morning and I am not sure I can use it, because I have to mount in on wood.
Maybe I will use thick wood glue to do that...although it is yellow.
Nope decided I can't use it - too stiff...so I will save it for something else later. I hate wasting materials.

The other weird thing about this process is that normally when I do art, it is intuitive and I never know what I am doing next. With this project, I have instructions in my head, which, if I do not follow them - things get messed up.
I intuited that all of the pieces would be 18" x 24" - so maybe they will.
In addition, I may make a sort of a frame border around each one using molding - no idea how to do that yet but I might do it so that they look like paintings. These pieces do not need to be framed because they are coated in plastic glue and done with acrylic to begin with. Framing is way too expensive these days - and it would be best if they looked finished with frames. Besides "acid free" and all that - to last 200 years - will humanity be around for that? Who knows...

Here is the horse mounted on the background.
There is a lot more for me to do...The horse did not go on so easily because of the vellum backing I put on. I will have to do things differently next time but I will make this work, using paint and enough layers of glue, (mod-podge) that it will look fine for the steep collage learning curve that this first piece has been.
But I do like the piece and even more amazing - I got my husband to clear out part of the living room so I can work on this project. There is absolutely no way, when I moved in here, 4 years ago, that he would have been so willing to help me so much like this, so that is a great advance and progress for us!

This is my ascendant sign 🙂 I like your approach of going with the flow and determination to get it done even after little creative mistakes. The final outcome looks so cool with the mosaic-like blue background.
