Se podría decir que los huesos forman el marco estructural de la cara, de acuerdo al tamaño y la posición de los huesos faciales es como se logrará determinar los dientes que encajan entre sí.
Existen diversas estructuras que abarcan desde los tejidos blandos y duros las cuales permiten darle forma a la cara.
Entre estas estructuras podemos encontrar las articulaciones temporomandibulares, conocidas como ATM en su abreviatura, ellas permiten que el maxilar inferior se pueda mover con fluidez, lo cual a su vez nos permite poder crear nuestras expresiones faciales, así mismo lograr demostrar cuando algo nos molesta o nos gusta, etc.
El maxilar inferior y el maxilar superior permite brindar soporte a nuestros dientes, lo cual favorece el tener una dentadura favorable de acuerdo a nuestro rostro, dándole así forma a nuestra cara.
