Henna design/sallah preparation

in Lifestylelast month

Yayyyyy... It's another celebration period for our Muslim brethrens and it's been preparation on a full swing especially for the ladies. So I happened to have been at my neighbour's house in the evening yesterday when someone came to apply henna design on her and her daughters foot and hands. It's quite normal how ladies are the ones in full glee during the sallah celebration, where they have a lot of preparations at hand. Ranging from making of hair to the henna designs to sewing new clothes to planning what to cook and even planning outings and yawo(visitations). It's usually a very beautiful period especially after the Ramadan (fasting) period. They just want to celebrate their prayers being answered and just be happy for the success of the fast.
Back to the henna design, when the lady came, my neighbour's daughter was already asleep which was a good thing cause that was the only way they could peacefully apply what they needed to apply without all those small small children wahala and shagwaba. So the lady first brought out already sketched and cut out sellotape designs she already made prior that day on a paper for my neighbour to pick from.

She picked one for her daughter and asked my opinion on the one she should pick for herself. Well I helped her pick one which I felt was beautiful and she liked it. The lady then went ahead to mix the dye which was a greenish powder with water and a liquid stuff she put in it from a bottle which scented very nice. She made it into a thick paste then set it aside before going ahead to put the cut out design on the child's leg perfectly before going ahead to apply the paste on the leg evenly and then covering it with a leather for it to absorb the heat and dry properly and also to avoid smudges on surfaces. After the leg application she then put the cut out design on the hand as well and applied the paste evenly and then tied it with a leather as well.

While she was done with the daughter's design she then started with that of the mother. Placing the already cut out design on the mother's leg was a bit of a struggle for the henna designer because of how big the leg was😂but she did and applied the paste to it and also covered it up as well. She then went to the do hands and by this time it was already late and the lady was rushing cause she had to go home.

At the end I had to complete the application of the paste on her hands and do the tying of the leather before I also left the house. They were to wash it off after 3-4hrs which they did and it came out red and nice.
Here's me sending an early barka da sallah wishes to all the Muslims in the house🎊💞
