Stress can sometimes be a smile, like when you have to go on a business trip to Caracas

Wednesday, 05:00 a.m., I'm at the exit door of my house. My day is supposed to have already started but in reality it is still night. A particularly dark and somewhat cold one. Next to me, my little daughter. I have to take her with me to Caracas, the capital of the Republic. Today is a presentation day at the Regional Office (Headquarters) of the institution where I work. I have no one to pick up my daughter from school, so I have no other option but to take her with me....

She looks a bit dazed and confused. She is simply not used to waking up so early for anything, let alone travelling. Since 03:30 a.m. the alarm clock has been going off, which means it's time to get out of bed and start a day that will undoubtedly be totally exhausting for both of us, challenging and above all, long in hours... Caracas is two hours away from the city where I live, San Diego, Carabobo? Fortunately we are not travelling by public transport, but the Office has done its homework so that we can get to our appointment in a suitable and, above all, silent means of transport.

We immediately fall into the ‘arms of Morpheus’. It's a journey that will take us a couple of hours to cover, perfect for a little more sleep. We arrive in the capital, and I immediately hear, feel and experience all the things that make me hate being there. I know it's not because of tourism or pleasure, but because of the duties of my job, but I've never got along with all the stressful atmosphere in Caracas. Honestly, I don't understand how the chaos, the deafening noise and the lack of a culture of respect is part of the daily life of millions of people who live in this city.

My daughter had already come to the capital, but she was very young. She doesn't remember. For her, everything is new and exciting. She doesn't agree with the hustle and bustle either, but she appreciates the many pavements and buildings in the historic centre of Caracas. She has always been very observant and detail-oriented. I'm afraid these are qualities she has developed from me, her mother, but in this instance they work to explain how children learn about something totally new to them. I don't have the slightest complaint from my daughter about that day. I think I have raised her well, and she has learned to behave soberly when mum is at work or with something to do with work.

Actually, most of the photos you can see here were taken by her, with my mobile phone. Except for the selfies (with colleagues at work) all the others are the work of her, my life partner, my daughter. I would like to add an anecdote or something with more moral weight but I don't like to lie unnecessarily. It was a bureaucratic, boring and formal day. You know how these things can be, but if there is one thing you can take away from all this, it is that I know that my daughter has learned that the lifestyle of an honest person can be more complicated and cumbersome than that of a person who is not... I think it is good for her character as a future woman to learn that sometimes you have to do things differently to get better results. A little girl, the need to do my job and the always enigmatic Caracas; 3 elements of this short story...

In the past, when I had to travel to another city for work, it was really stressful. The best thing is to try to channel that and even though it's still a work trip, to be able to enjoy it. You went with your daughter, although that added some stress, at the same time it's comforting.
