While walking through a field, have you ever noticed that the grasses from distance look greener than the ones within your reach?
Science explains this to be due to the our brains perception of distance, atmospheric scattering, reflectance of light and many others.
So this validates your view😊
But, the issue of perception does not just end with the appearance of distant grasses. Humans by nature tend to perceive things based on visual cues, and we all too often fall into the trap of comparison on the basis of what we perceive.
We compare our lives with that of the person next to us (Nelson or Jessica). We spend time wondering why things are not for us the way it is for them, and find ourselves seeking to be in their shoes(the quest for these greener pastures).
Yet, this is just another illusion. As there's usually more to things than meets the eye. These same people may also have what they are struggling with, which we may not even be capable of handling.
To think of it, what happens to nurturing our own patches of green to satisfaction? Where is the place of self-development in self-love? We put too much focus on searching for greener pastures and neglect the patches of green we have.
Pastures will always look greener from a distance, but in reality, they are not as green. It is high time we begin to appreciate what we have the more, to express more gratitude for who we are. To begin to nurture what we have and say no to yielding to the illusion of Greener Pastures!
