Hello Hive Community,
I should have shared my second post with you all after my introduction post, but lately, I've been swamped with school exams. Interestingly, these exams have given me the inspiration for this second post. They've made me realize I have a problem – an addiction problem.
What I once considered normal has become undeniably clear: I am addicted to social media. I can't stay away from it for too long. Even when I plan to study for consecutive hours, I end up taking 20-30 minute breaks to check my phone for WhatsApp messages, see what posts my friends have on their WhatsApp statuses, or visit X.com (formerly known as Twitter.com). I find myself constantly checking my email, Quora, Facebook, Instagram, not to mention TikTok.
This addiction has started affecting my social life outside the digital realm. While my classmates and friends engage in conversations about sports, lifestyle, and various topics, I'm often buried in my phone, detached from the world around me. It's reached a point where one of my classmates once remarked that I act like a ghost, as if I don't exist at all in class. Ironically, as funny as it may seem, it's painfully true. I sometimes wish I possessed Thanos' five Infinity Stones just so I could snap my fingers and make all the gadgets in the world disappear. But, of course, that's just wishful thinking.
Finally, I understand that I'm not alone in facing addiction. Many of us grapple with various addictions, whether it's to drugs, sex, masturbation, alcohol, gambling, or other vices. Acknowledging our addictions is the crucial first step toward positive change. While the idea of making our gadgets vanish like Thanos might be appealing, the real power lies within us. We have the ability to take control of our habits and regain our presence in the real world. Let's strive to find a balance between our digital lives and our interactions with the tangible world, ultimately leading to a more fulfilling and connected existence.
