El otoño en Galicia tiene un encanto particular, y el año pasado decidimos aprovechar la temporada para hacer algo diferente. Samu, un verdadero experto en setas, propuso una salida al monte en busca de estos deliciosos tesoros naturales. Lo mejor de todo es que esta no fue solo una excursión, sino una actividad compartida con un grupo de personas de nuestra iglesia Adventista del Séptimo Día, lo que hizo que la experiencia fuera aún más especial.
Autumn in Galicia has a particular charm, and last year we decided to take advantage of the season to do something different. Samu, a true mushroom expert, proposed a trip to the mountains in search of these delicious natural treasures. Best of all, this was not just an excursion, but an activity shared with a group of people from our Seventh-day Adventist church, which made the experience even more special.
Samu, como experto micólogo, fue quien nos guió en esta salida. Con su conocimiento y pasión por las setas, nos enseñó a identificar las diferentes especies y a conocer las características que las hacían comestibles o, en algunos casos, peligrosas. Durante el recorrido, aprendimos muchísimo sobre la flora y la fauna del bosque gallego, pero lo mejor fue ver cómo cada miembro del grupo se entusiasmaba al encontrar una seta.
Samu, as an expert mycologist, was the one who guided us on this outing. With his knowledge and passion for mushrooms, he taught us to identify the different species and to know the characteristics that made them edible or, in some cases, dangerous. During the tour, we learned a lot about the flora and fauna of the Galician forest, but the best thing was seeing how each member of the group was excited to find a mushroom.
Entre los hallazgos más emocionantes de la jornada estuvieron las cantarelas, de un color amarillo brillante y tan sabrosas en los guisos; los boletos, grandes y carnosos, perfectos para acompañar platos sustanciosos; los tubiformes, con su forma característica y sabor suave; y una sorprendente laccaria amethystina, una seta de tonos morados que, aunque no es muy común, se dejó ver en uno de los rincones más húmedos del monte. Cada descubrimiento fue una pequeña victoria, y todos nos sentimos como verdaderos exploradores.
Among the most exciting finds of the day were the chanterelles, bright yellow in color and so tasty in stews; the mushrooms, large and meaty, perfect to accompany substantial dishes; the tubiformes, with their characteristic shape and mild flavor; and a surprising laccaria amethystina, a purple-hued mushroom that, although not very common, was seen in one of the most humid corners of the mountain. Each discovery was a small victory, and we all felt like true explorers.
Este tipo de salidas no solo nos permiten disfrutar de la belleza de Galicia, sino también fortalecer los lazos de nuestra comunidad, aprender unos de otros y, sobre todo, reconocer la maravilla de la creación que nos rodea. Cada seta encontrada fue un recordatorio de la abundancia que la naturaleza nos ofrece, y nos sentimos afortunados de poder compartirla juntos.
These types of outings not only allow us to enjoy the beauty of Galicia, but also strengthen the ties of our community, learn from each other and, above all, recognize the wonder of the creation that surrounds us. Each mushroom found was a reminder of the abundance that nature offers us, and we feel lucky to be able to share it together.
