This time I bring you another post of my daily life at the University and as a student leader as I have told you in previous posts. Yesterday, Friday, February 24, was held a day of carnetizacion for students of my career psychology and visual arts students of my deanship of humanities and arts, because we had been 5 years without students could carnetizarse and be identified with the credentials of the university, which is important to mobilize in each UCLA facility and the safety of each worker or student in the institution, In addition to the benefits it has as in the use of public transportation or institutions that require the use of the university card, and all this is due to the economic situation that the country was going through in those years that hindered the resources and materials until today that was achieved otherwise, but that's something I would like to tell you in more detail in this post.
It turns out that last week we found out that the offices of Control de Estudios de Rectorado of the University were working the machine to print ID cards and was attending Wednesday and Thursday, and that there was a notice of tariff with prices in $ for students, workers and administrative and teaching staff. When we, the leaders, found out we were surprised and at first we did not believe it, so we started to confirm the information with different sources, including the general secretary of the university himself, who confirmed that it was true and that the university had the resources to print ID cards, obviously charging an affordable cost. Before making openly to the student population we decided to approach the control offices to see if we could manage with them a day on specific days for the students of our deanship and thus would make faster that most of our students were identified.
We got down to work and managed to make contact with them, after having everything ready and plans for the conference, it was decided that they would be in two days, Thursday for music and human development, and Friday for psychology and visual arts, all day. Now, the cards are paid and the process of paying was somewhat complex because they are university procedures, and also there were many students, especially psychology that enrollment is approximately 600 students, we agreed that one person would receive the payments of the 4 careers, the 4 student representatives would take the order of the general lists of students in their careers, Here is where it became difficult for me because my career as I said is big and only with 1st and 2nd semester I have 200 students, so I had to create strategies to ensure that there was an order, starting that each delegate of the 10 semester would receive the payments of their students and would create a list per semester, then those lists would be passed to me to make a general one, so that the work was more optimal and organized. Once everything was ready, the only thing left to do was to wait for the day of the meeting.
The long awaited day for the students arrived on Friday and early at 8:30am the students from different semesters of arts and psychology began to arrive, the process was quite fast, as soon as they entered they lasted a few minutes and left at once with their card in hand, the truth touched me the smile on their faces because there were students who had never had a university card since they entered or had not renewed their old one for a long time. At 9am my team from Psicología Unida arrived to help me because soon more people would start arriving, especially psychology students and we had to be prepared to assist them or organize the queue and so it was, at 10am the queue was getting bigger and people started to appear with different doubts or problems that needed to be attended and also to make sure that the queue did not get disorganized.
At about 12pm the queue was already around the Rectorado and it is worth mentioning that this is a huge building that covers an entire block so you can imagine the queue of students waiting, the process at first was fast, but had to be delayed a little because the machine to print ID cards is not new, it is years old and when you reach the number of 100 cards you have to let it rest every so often, then it was also that the material was running out and they had to see how far they could stretch it and wait to bring more, It was also that the material was running out and they had to see how far they could stretch it and wait for them to bring more, in between all that the students kept arriving since the day was all day. Before going to lunch, we decided to speed up the process by cutting the line of people from one end to the other so that the people at that point would not continue to wear the sun and be uncomfortable, the second thing was to start collecting the ID cards of each of the students so that the staff only had to check the list and make them pass ensuring the position to each one, there were two lots of ID cards in total that we collected.
We went to have lunch at a nearby place called Pipo's where they sell ice cream and hot dogs at a good price, honestly I had never been there but my friends told me that it was a very good place so I decided to trust it. When I arrived the place had a little Fancy decoration which is not my style but the truth is that it was comfortable, the attention was a little slow but it is because there were many people too, the menu we ordered was 2 hot dogs for 1.5$ plus a drink and 1$ of ice cream with toppins of your choice, the truth very economical, especially for the area that is the East of the city, the truth I had a great time I give the place an 8/10 I recommend it.
When I returned after lunch at about 3pm the line had thinned a little, but it was still long, I decided to stay until 5pm until the last student got his card and we closed the day with a total of 546 students carded, not counting the students who for some reason or another could not attend.
