Trying to Get Into Running. Which Shoe Should I Buy?

in Lifestyle2 months ago

Earlier this year, I vowed to be physically active. I enrolled in a nearby 24/7 gym and finished 12 out of 20 training sessions. I stopped for a while going to the gym due to Holy Week holidays and some knee tendinitis; then eventually the gym closed down in preparation for new management.

Despite not able to maintain the gym routine just yet, at least I was able to get back to more activities such as tennis. I also started joining a running club and had my first 5km with the 5AM Gang when they started their Makati-Ayala chapter. Then I also enrolled into a 10 session swim class to improve my strokes. I'm currently happy where I'm at in terms of activities.

Shoes For Different Sports

I had replaced my tennis shoes last June, which offers proper stability and protection whenever I play. I have an old pair of Adidas running shoes which I bought extra from an Outlet store, but I find them too small/tight. Now that I'm officially going into running as another form of exercise, I would like to get a new pair as well.

A former officemate who was into running suggested me to have a gait analysis. I dropped by at ASICS Glorietta branch last weekend to have my feet alignment checked through their Static Gait Analysis, which by the way is free. No need to purchase anything, but of course they would recommend their products. They help assess one’s foot alignment while standing still.

It is interesting to know that my left foot has some overpronation, which means that foot rolls inward more excessively than normal. No wonder it’s also my left knee which has tendinitis; could also be an effect of it. This is very helpful in understanding and preparing against any further sports injuries.

Now, I need to do more research on what would be the best running shoes for me. I'm a functional type of person and I always love to research before any significant purchase. Will have to browse through different brands and models, but basically will focus on looking at shoes that can help my left foot overpronation, give stability and comfort. I'm really a newbie runner and my initial goals would be to comfortable run 5km, then 10km.

Any recommendations for a newbie and casual runner like me?
