Hellish heat

in Lifestyle5 months ago

As I write this now at 3:27 in the morning, I hope the power doesn't go out again. Yesterday, more than half of the town was without power, including the place where I work.
This happened because of the high temperatures, which are still a high 29 degrees even at night, and on top of that, the humidity is so high that it's hard to breathe. More people than usual have turned on air conditioners and other high-consumption devices.

It's manageable for houses with one or two air conditioners, but for places like restaurants, hotels, motels, etc., which are big consumers and have a lot to cool down, we were without power for 5 hours.
Then, during the night, the power went out at least 7 times for a few minutes as they were fixing everything.

Today, it's the same thing, but even worse. It's not about the power, as it was only out for an hour, but probably because of all the outages, our ramp system at the camp broke down, so now anyone can enter, which I don't like because I have to be even more vigilant.
Our radio communication and landline phone also broke down, so I have to call my colleagues on my mobile if we need more people at a certain moment.

There was no power at home, so I'm charging my battery, watch, and now my mobile here while I write this.
In the rush because they called me to come to work immediately, I forgot to eat, so I found three cookies here.
I hope to make it through the night with coffee, dividing the cookies to eat half every half hour.
I didn't have dinner at home due to the rush, so I'm as hungry as a wolf 😄

At least I have coffee and milk, and the air conditioner is working, so that comforts me.
Tomorrow I'm off after 14 nights, which relaxes me even more because I know I'll rest for one night at home and spend the evening on the balcony with a big pitcher of cold lemonade.

I hope these heat waves will ease soon, even though meteorologists say this is just the beginning.
I pray that they're wrong and it cools down a bit, even just 5 degrees, that would make me happy.
Until then, like everyone else, I can only avoid the heat and stay in the shade and air-conditioned spaces.

It also happened to us months ago, the high heat index reached for about 58 degree Celsius, we don't even have air conditioner at home, just a ceiling fan. We're living like in hell during noontime and it seems like mother nature retaliation against us humans. We are not used to that kind of high heat even our government suspended all the school classes in all affected areas. I'm glad it ended and now we're in rainy season.
