Sometimes you awake happy and sometimes…not so happy!

I mean, is it just me or do you also have moments of pure happiness and moments of depression? For me, most of the times, unfortunately, the latter is accompanied by lack of sleep...

And what do you do about it? I, for once, this morning was up and about since 5 o’ clock and cooked three different dishes… I hope they are edible!

Over the years, Ι have come to believe that happiness, joy, good spirits, is a choice. We chose to be happy; we chose to be cheerful. Of course, these feelings are not easy if tremendous things happen, such as health issues or worse.

But most of the times bad spirits is a sign of our times. Western civilization has resolved – more or less - major issues such as diseases, food, wars; nonetheless, depression is a common disease.

Although my country, Greece, I believe isn’t rich (most of you may remember the years of crisis whereupon we were in all world news feed), still it is part of Europe, and belongs to the west.

It is a characteristic of non-poor civilizations which are inside a bubble of shrinks, pills, and consumption, to further create wars for the rest of the world and not help on the outcome such as the immigration, the poverty, the lack of medication, the lack of food and so on. Luckily there is depression to bring some equilibrium to the equation.

So, what do you do to feel better? In my mind there are a few tips that help me feel better or at least not feel worse.

Eat something nice: Maybe some of you have noticed that I am a food lover. If you are a bit down, doesn’t a nice meal uplift you? Or – now that it’s hot – a flavorful ice cream?

Avoid toxic people: they are all over the place and most of the time are toxic and bullyish and mean. I don’t know why, but we should ban them altogether from every aspect of life if possible.

Be close to nature: I don’t know about you but generally I feel better if I stare at nature surrounding me. And if you don’t have nature or a park near you, just lift your eyes and look at the sky. It is soothing.

Buy a dog or whichever pet: I think that a pet is pure love and people should have them in their lives if possible. I am trying to convince my husband, which is a rather difficult task.

Pray: if you believe to some sort of divine power, it is soothing to just pray. Throughout my difficulties in life, pray has relieved and helped me.
