The fourth day of December 2024 was busy for me at school, specifically at the College of Education Akamkpa Awi, but the second and third days were calm.

During my time at the college, my HOD called me and introduced me to Dr. Victor Etta, the recently hired director of the ICT department. He had just returned from Turkey and had decided to resume his work, so we had a brief meeting. Since it was our first time meeting, I happened to introduce myself to him. He responded in a kind and cheerful way, saying that he would lead and guide me well in the area of ICT gadgets and other family peripherals. As a computer science student, I was thrilled that I had finally found the school father I had prayed for—not just a man, but a computer science doctor. I went home happily that day.
Since then
Today been the fourth of December, I went to school late, I mean not as the slated time as in our time table, so I was sanctions mercilessly by my school father who I assumed he is ,which I never expected this aggressive attitude from him since he appears to be so calm and Peaceful. The saying "do not take the smile of a lion as his week point" finally resonated with me today. I immediately apologized, and he accepted it. I was then instructed to pick up a system unit that had been discarded because it was defective and troubleshoot the issues. Arhh arhh I puffy gasp.
At this point, I have never encountered such an exercise in my lifetime while studying computer science so everything in the system unit which I opened was so abstract to me because I only learnt the theories aspect not practicals.I stayed for over couple of hours looking at the system without understanding anything I quickly moved to him and called sir, please this is my first experience opening the system unit, I don't have a good knowledge about the algorithm covering it. He shout at me which arouses to my jumping and he quickly left what he was doing and took me directly to the table where the system was, he started by saying "the aims and goals of computer science can not be achieved if the theories are integrated with the practical", I choke my head and looked at him so seriously that trigger to elaborate more.
Question and learning time
My lecturer Dr Ekoro Ekoro,will always tell me Victor asking questions while teaching is a good teaching method to be applied when learning practically, because it keeps tip toe to assimilate what will taught.
Dr Victor Etta started by asking if I know the RAM ?
which i answered yes, that it means the Random Access Memory which happens to be the primary storage of a computer. He applause me and told me to locate it in the system which I know not such he laughed and said, you see what I said earlier "practicals are very important while learning computer". He show me a rectangular board which is fixed in a black and white space called the Bank which I exclaimed loudly and he ask what's the problem, and I said, is difficult to learn from a doctor of a particular filed, he looked at me strangely and asked why do I say so, I answered by saying that doctor have so many ways of explanation which might get the learners confused. He smiles an concluded by saying that is is the working space of the computer and later he quickly proceeded by asking
Do you know the power pack?
I responded with a yes, enumerating the function of the power pack which plays the role of connecting electric current to the mother. He said good, which I was able to show him where it is located .
He further asked i know the computer processor and where it is located? I quickly said no,he responded by showing me and explaining the function the processor also known as the (CPU) is a logical circuit that respond to, and processes the basic programs that drives the computer.

It also have the capability to execute instructions and perform calculations efficiently. I clapped him cause I was really amazed. That was where the lecturing ended which I was very happy
Lastly before he ended the class session, he asked me if I know the HDD, I was confused with a strange look on my face he noticed it and gave me the answer to the abbreviation aforementioned as Hard Disk Drive. I smile, choke my head and said no noted sir. He explained that the HDD is a secondary storage device
Lessons learnt
Good learning does not come simple, I said to myself I can give a small explanation of some items in the system unit. I was so happy and went home gladly
I never gave up on maintenance and troubleshooting, and today I believe I will be more proficient in the field in due time. That day, which I thought was hectic, was actually the best day of my life because it was educational, skill acquiring with the best teaching method handled by a good teacher which made me learn so fast. My HOD and Dr. Etta equipped me with a skill which nearly got me into a problem with my family. This demonstrates that my tireless efforts at work were not in vain.
