Did you know that a Siamese cat will get darker as they age? I recently learned that their fur will darken, so I had to look at older photos our Siamese cat, Tirzah, and see!
When we got her, she was scared to death, malnourished, and her fur felt terrible, like she had never been petted!
We were told she was 2 years old, but now I question if that was true or not. I don't know why they would lie, but she had the coloring, build, and size of our 6 month old kitten.
As she settled in, it was easier to see her coloring. It's cooler here than where she used to live (closer to Panama City). Our temperatures get to around 75-80 in the day and 55-60s in the night.
I had read that Siamese would get darker as their fur gets colder. So the colder spots on them, tail, feet, nose, and ears will be darker than the rest of their fur, plus it will get darker as they age. I've really noticed this recently.
Above is the last "lighter" colored picture I have of her on my phone. She is so pretty, but she has such a Siamese attitude. She doesn't want to be bothered and is definitely not a lap cat!
This is how she currently looks. See how much darker her dark spots have gotten? If she was 2 when we got her, she's now about 4. She sleeps outside at night now, so I wonder if that's one of the reasons she's darkening up.
Her face and ears are now connected with the dark fur. Even the white part of her fur is a little darker than it used to be.
I'm pretty amazed by the change in her coloring. I didn't ever realize that it was possible for them to change until I saw it recently elsewhere.
Research I did says that it is a result of the Himalaya gene that is like melanin, so it darkens the fur. I think it's pretty cool!
Compare her to our other Siamese when he was about a month old, and about 6 months old now.
