Hello beer friends, here is my post to @detlev's weekly Beer Saturday #382 🍺 Thanks a lot for hosting the fun challenge!
The #BeerSaturday Challenge - Week 382
Continuing with my dark beer series from last week, I thought I’d share an alcohol-free dark beer this time. But then, I realized... this is actually malt beer! I picked it up along with last week's Dolden Dark Porter from Riedenburger Brauhaus, intending it for my partner. They were just placed next to each other on the shelf of an organic store.
According to Wikipedia, malt beer is brewed like regular beer but fermentation is suppressed, resulting in minimal alcohol content. Despite being called "malt beer," the ingredients listed are water, malt, hops, yeast, agave syrup, and carbon dioxide. Given Germany’s strict regulations and definitions, it might not even be considered "beer" ... 😅
Checking the description of this beer on Riedenburger Brauhaus’ website, there’s no mention of the word "beer" at all. Yet, near the top of the bottle, it says "Bio Bier-Spezialität" (organic beer specialty). So, is it beer or not?
As long as it tastes good, it doesn’t really matter. So I opened it up to enjoy with some ultra-comfort food — mac and cheese 🥳
The beer didn’t have much of a head at all, which makes it seem less like beer... maybe it really isn’t beer after all. But it had a lovely deep brown color like dark beer.
As for the taste, malt beer is often called "Kinderbier" (children’s beer) because of its sweetness. This one had a roasted, yet mild sweetness, which surprisingly paired well with the meal I had planned for a dark beer. My partner noticed that the malt beer is organic and doesn’t use high-fructose corn syrup, which might also contribute to its mild flavor.
It might have been a bit of a quirky Beer Saturday post, but I have to say, after a few years away from malt beer, I really enjoyed it!
I'll be back to regular black beer post next week 😉
Happy Beer Monday (Saturday)!

The #BeerSaturday Challenge - Week 382
In the end, enjoyment is only what matters. If it was good for you, then it was good! Sometimes, when you drive for example, you cannot drink, and these types of "drinks" if we do not call them beers, are life savers! Cheers, and enjoy.
You are right. Thank you for the kind comment. I just thought it’s alcohol free version like regular light colored beer has. Learning by drinking 😉🍻
Always learning is good and by drinking alongside the learning, things can only go well! Enjoy.
