After slumming it down Lidl’s beer aisle for the past few weeks, I thought I’d treat myself to a pair of frosty legends.
Trappist Rochefort
Of all the Trappist beers I’ve tried, Rochefort are the finest. It’s one of the few beers that I could identify in a blind taste test. A truly unmistakable beer.
Excluding their new Tripple extra, there are 3 different Trappist Rochefort to choose from. Trappist 6, 8, & 10.
Going up in strength accordingly, this trio of monastery ales are a delight. From the relatively tame 6, to the ferocious Trappist 10, these beers are the sort that every beer enthusiast should must try!
It’s Trappist 8 which does it for me. 8 lies in the Goldilocks zone where all the ingredients achieve maximum potential.
With a gratifying “Pop” of the lid I’m enjoying this beer with the first of my 5 senses. After the pour my desire increases as this beautiful bronzed ale bubbles away beneath a healthy looking head. The aroma is a comforting one, like the smell from a neighbours barbecue, it insists upon itself.
Drinking Trappist Rochefort 8 is one of life’s true pleasures. At 9.2% you’d expect this beer to have some overbearing features, but you’d be wrong. Trappist 8 washes away cleanly, leaving no sticky aftertaste at all. The candy sugar. The dark fruits. The perfect level of carbonation. It all combines to create a near-perfect beer.
If you’ve never tried a Rochefort before, give yourself a punch to privates. Now, go out and find yourself somewhere that sells this glorious beer. You can thank me later 😉
Happy #beersaturday folks!
