One of the noteworthy Prague`s Zizkov neighbourhood beer pubs is the legendary “Pivnice U Sadu”. Founded in 1929, during the “golden age” of the Czech Republic, in the First Republic, the pub still retains the spirit of past generations, hovering in the form of a flea market, under the ceiling of the bar. The pub is well prepared, beer is well scooped up, and the fun here does not stop until 4 in the morning (from Thursday to Saturday, on other days until two at night).
I will say right away that the “U Sadu” pub has a special aura that will either immediately push you away or bind you forever, forcing you to return here in every Prague voyage. The taps connected beer from Prazdroj, the Lobkowicz group and Matushka brewery, as well as beer under their own brands “Sádek” and “Vaněk 1988”, dedicated to the most important historical event in the Czech Republic. On December 10, 1988, the first official demonstration of the Czech opposition since 1948 took place at Skroupovo square where pub is located, which subsequently led to the fall of the communist regime in the Czech Republic and the first free elections in 50 years in which the legendary dissident Vaclav Havel (known also as Ferdinand Vaněk, by name of one of the characters in the play, which he played).
Food prices start from 109 CZK for cheese nuggets and rest at 395 CZK for a giant 300 gr. burger.
Despite the authenticity and historicity of this pub, this is the first beer bar in Prague, which began to accept payment in bitcoins, and subsequently expanded to other cryptocurrencies. I remember very well when I drove my Parisian friends to Zizkov’s beer bars in 2018 and “U Sadu” was our last point well after midnight (this pub is one of the few in Prague where you can drink quality beer at one in the morning), and we saw on the bar monitor there is an inscription about the possibility of paying with bitcoins. My French drinking companion decided to check if this was true and we were extremely surprised when the waitress called the administrator who accepted the payment in bitcoins :)
