A Beer in Bogotá Beer Company Usaquén

Hello, Hivers and Beer lovers!

This weekend my dear friend @tengolotodo invites me to share with you a beer experience, and how not to accept his invitation. This will be the first beer experience I share with you this year and I hope it won't be the last, but actually we had these beers last year, hehe.

The Sunday before Christmas Eve we went to Usaquén, a town in Bogotá famous among other things for its flea market on Sundays. My son wanted to buy a gift for his girlfriend at the market.

After walking around the market for a while, which was quite busy that day, we bought some nice earrings but ended up tired and thirsty. The perfect excuse to go into the BBC Pub in Usaquén.

BBC - Bogota Beer Company is one of the great craft beer brands in Colombia. They have several pubs in the city. Also you can get their beers in different stores and supermarkets. But only in their pubs you will find some of their special seasonal beers.

So, since we were in one of their pubs, we decided to order one of the ones we don't usually find in the supermarket.

My husband and I chose a red IPA type beer called Septimazo IPA.

Something I like about BBC beers is that they use very Colombian terms or names of emblematic places in the city or the country to name their beers.

So you may be wondering where does the name Septimazo come from?

Septimazo is the name given to an iconic pedestrian boulevard located on a section of one of the most important avenues of the city, Carrera 7. The Septimazo is located between 10th and 24th streets in the center of the city.

The supplier's website describes this beer as follows

Pure malt red ale brewed with aromatic hops. Intense bitter, citric and herbal flavor.

I generally like BBC red beers and this one was no exception. I thought it was perfect for one of those usual cold afternoons in Bogotá.

My son on the other hand loves dark beers. So he ordered a dark ale stout called Macondo.

It wasn't bad but I confess that I'm not a fan of dark beers that taste a bit like coffee, like this one. Even though I love coffee.

The supplier's website describes this beer as follows

Black beer infused with Colombian coffee, stout type.

The name? Macondo is the town from the famous novel One Hundred Years of Solitude by Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez.

So we enjoyed some good beers and a great chat.

Just as we were leaving the pub this super cool vintage jeep was passing by, attracting the attention of those on the street.

The center of Usaquén looks like a small town inside the city, with its buildings that some of them preserve the colonial style. It reminds me a lot of the town of El Hatillo in Caracas. That day, however, we could not enjoy visiting the beautiful park in front of the church because it was under construction. An excuse to come back and maybe have another beer at the BBC Pub on another occasion.

This is my entry to #BeerSaturday week 396.

Thank you for reading. Cheers 🍻

I am with Rorro and a pint of Macondo it looks delicious and then you mentioned the coffee in there. Yep that would have been the one for me. I must admit when I looked at the menu in the first picture Super Eli 💙 and saw Septimazo IPA Red Beer and Macondo Black Beer that I would want both.
But the Septimazo was not that much of a red beer in appearance.
Glad you enjoyed it though and that was a shame the park, but a cool looking jeep!
Thank you for sharing, I knew you had some beers to show us

You would have loved a pint of Macondo. In fact I think you would really like the black beers in Colombia because they have the tendency to be infused with coffee. You would also like Septimazo and they have a red beer called Monserrate which I love, I usually buy it in the supermarket and its color is more reddish and I'm sure you would also like it.

So when will you visit me in Bogota for a cheeky beer or several ones, Super Ed? jaja 💙💙

Now I like the sound of this Monserrate Super Eli!
Oh coming to Bogota for a cheeky beer or three jeje well we never know what will happen 💙💙

Jeje 😉💙

Usaquen es lo máximo. Me alegro que lo hayas disfrutado

Dark beers seem a bit spooky to me. The beers in my country usually look like the ones you drink. But you already know that because you have been to Turkey before. What were the beers you drank here?

When I visited Istanbul I tried Efes and I loved it. And for some time now it is sometimes available in Venezuela at a few places, so I have had the pleasure of having some Efes in Caracas as well, hehe.

Oh so son now have a gf? 😆. Nosey me 🤣.
I didn't had bear even this past occasions but had a few shots of soju and whisky 😆

Hehe!!! Yes, he already has almost a year with that girlfriend. You get ready because in the blink of an eye Caleb grows up and you'll already be a mother in law lol 🤣
I don't think I've ever tasted soju, does it taste like sake?

Yeah, that looks like a nice beer and some fun.

That's right! Very good beer and fun
Have a great week :)
