eat good food,
and play some board games

We traveled to the brewery in Clarens after a longish hike. We needed the refreshments and some good food.

But little did we know the fun and good time that awaited us...

It is incredible how many new memories one can make when you travel, meet new people, and open oneself to be touched by new experiences/places.

It is incredible how one can reshape one's own world through the experiencing of difference.

So, please join me on this virtual journey as I take you the Highland Brew brewery, situated in a beautiful place in South Africa!

The Views

You have to start with the views...

The brewery is situated in the mountainous region of Clarens and the brewery took advantage of this fact. It does not matter where you look, there are mountains surrounding you.

You really appreciate the beauty once you sit down, and have a sip of your beer. When you breath out, saturating yourself with the beauty, the mountains begins to touch your soul. (This might also be the alcohol that starts to go to your head!)

The Brewery

When we entered the brewery, there was a laid back and relaxed atmosphere, with various tables enjoying their cold beers in the hot summer sun. A couple of fellow hikers also joined, as they also finished their hikes in need of some cold and refreshing beers!

The interior of the brewery was modern, with a lot of money being invested in this place. It always fascinates me how much money there is in the oddest of places. I wonder who owns the brewery...

The Beer (Obviously)

We came for the beer, but we stayed for the views! (As you can imagine...) But the beer was also good, with some crazy and strange ones available!

I took the boring route and ordered their standard ale, the Highland Brew Ale. But they also had a truffle beer, something I have never heard of, and also have never tasted! I took a small tasting back to the table so that everyone could taste this strange beer, and it was a hit! No one really ordered it, but everyone enjoyed the unique and strange experience. I wanted to buy a can to take home only to hear that they have none of their beers in cans! (Only one beer, the blond.)

It always saddens me when a brewery does not have beers that I can take home to sample. Alas, life is short and it does not help to get mad at such small matters.

The Food and Some Fun Games

We used the opportunity to eat something and sample their menu! It was good, and we enjoyed the food. They mostly have small plates and sandwiches, but they also sold frozen meat for you to take home and cook! We definitely used this opportunity as it was wild meats from the area.

We also enjoyed some board games! On each table they placed unique board games. On our table we had 30 Seconds, a game I am sure most South African kids grew up with. Under the influence of some beers, we played this game and it was some of the most fun we had in years!

Cheers to a 2025 full of beer

And so yet another beer travel journey and adventure ends. Sadly, with not enough beer I could take home!

But so also a new year begins, the big 2025, with potentially even more beer on its way! Even though I have almost reviewed a 100 beers last year, and I almost visited 20 breweries, this is only the peak of the iceberg. So many adventures still lay waiting to be unlocked!

So, cheers to a 2025 that will be brim full of beer and adventures!

Cheers!

I think this is the beer my friend showed me when he went somewhere in Africa. He has a high regard for this beer and highly recommends it. I hope I can try it too !BBH

Thank you so much my friend! Glad that they enjoyed it. Keep well and happy drinking!

Great location for a Brewery. The scenery in the surrounding area is incredible! The beer sounds good. Too bad yomthey don't sell it in cans to take home. You need to bring a growler next time to fill up.

Happy new year!

Thank you so much! It was a great experience; I hope that they will have some more beers in can with my next visit! Enjoy the new year!
