Tucked away in the most unlikely of places, there is a brewery that surpasses and exceeds all expectations. At least, in terms of looks and appearances. The brewery is one of the most modern and beautiful I have visited in a while. But it almost feels out of place, as if it does not feel like it should be there.
The area is known for all its fishing boats, and the most delicious “slap tjips” or chips that is fried for extra long time and extra oily, and for the cray fish caught in the area, but not for its beer!
The brewery is part of new architecture that is based on the original style of homes found in the area, but with a modern twist. Even though it does not entirely fit in with the area, deemed as a fisherman’s town, it is an incredible structure nonetheless.
So, please join me on this virtual journey of yet another beautiful brewery in South Africa!
The Setting
We arrived late the afternoon just before the brewery closed. The setting was perfect, the sun was beginning to set and the region’s indigenous plants, called fynbos, surrounded the new white building. The brewery’s outside was beautifully decorated, blending in with the surrounding area. It will probably not be everyone’s style, but I think it was really beautiful!
There was even a nice piece of artwork indicating where the doggies can drink some water!
The Brewery
The brewery, as mentioned above, is very modern in its architectural style and decor. I really liked it, as it blended in with the fynbos nature outside. I am not sure who designed the building, but whoever did it did a wonderful job.
On every table, there were these big blocks of tic tac toe, but I am not sure how these games will go when people have a beer or three in!
The Beers
My trusty Beer Passport led me to the brewery, as with all of the others. We did not really have time to drink too much, as they were already beginning to close shop. But we stayed for some samples. They had an interesting raspberry beer (which begins to question the boundaries of what a beer is) and some great smoky porter.
Unfortunately, like so many other cases, they did not have beers in bottles or cans for me to buy. Luckily I persuaded the bartender to give me a couple of unlabelled beers! The urge to buy a growler is getting bigger and bigger! (But it is so expensive in my country…)
Postscriptum, or Another Beer Down the Hatch
The travelling soul is the one with the most memories. We cannot remember everything, but it shapes us. We make memories by travelling, we actively shape them. By writing them down, we can remember them a bit more!
(Just before getting into the car, we saw the most beautiful cat lying on the counter! Luckily, the camera worked and I got a nice photograph. As I tried to take a second photograph, the cat ran away.)
So, another brewery and another beer done! What a beautiful journey. I really hope that you enjoyed it with me.
For now, happy travels and happy drinking! Keep well.
All of the musings and reflections are my drunken own. The photographs are also my own, taken with my Nikon D300.

A Beer passport? Where did you get that? That is nice very unique.
Nice brewery. I was there a few years back in the winter, and although the building was there, it was closed, thus I could not get in!
Looks like I will need to visit Paternoster again!
what a relaxing view while drinking beer, I love the environment and the unique style of the venue.
This is what building a business is all about. You create its own identity, one capable of transmitting its own form to the outside. The mimicry of the environment surrounds you, each architectural style has its own conceptualization.
It is interesting that the brewery used urban elements to relate them and generate an exteriorization of it with everything that relates to it. It is not uniform even though it acts independently.
Regarding the beer how nice that the bartender decided to give you one without a label or bottled. Each of the photographs is beautiful.
