#Beersaturday - the wonderful colours of beer

in BEER3 years ago

There was a time where Beer was yellow and only yellow, generally pale yellow, not even shades of yellow but now, now there is every colour under the rainbow it seems. On Friday this week I popped down to my local bar for some quick after work drinks, just four beers, but four beers that could have looks less alike if they tried.

Okay two of those glasses are water so we can disregard them but the the other two are worth a comment or two.

The glass on the right probably looks normal enough, and yeah it does, sort of like a clasis lager, but with less carbonation, but in reality it's anything but Pickle Beer from NZ brerwer's Garage Project. It's a kettle sour infused with dill pickles. And it is refreshing and fascinating, It's like aa Kolsch but with this wave of pickle juice adding the sour.

On the left is the type of colour where people not in the know ask if it's even beer. Those in the know shake their heads and say 'sure is - it's the MOJO Cherry Cola sour from Boat Rocker (Melbourne brewer of some note) - and they are left none the wiser. How to explain this on, well I guess if you understand what these Lollies it tastes pretty much like that, but less sweet.

But onto round two

Again one of these beers looks normal enough, and in reality it is - The one on the left is Hop Nation (Another Melbourne brewer) Plug and Play level up which is a new version of their West Coast IPA. As you can see this looks like a beer should - it's crystal clear, nice white head, beer like, and the taste is also amazing, crisp, hoppy, a touch of dank it's all good.

But that beer on the right - No, nothing has gone wrong it's meant to look like that it's from Veil Brewing is called typing...typing: enhanced and claims to be a bubblegum IPA. What I can say is that it tastes a lot better than it looks, really it tastes like a fruity, hazy new Englandy IPA.

So there you go, four beers, four completely different approaches, four different looks, but all bloody brilliant - ain't beer (or BRRRRR as my local likes to call it) grand.

And as always a reminder to enter #beersaturday organised by @detlev and check out the beer community for even more beer soaked stories.

8All 4 look tasty and very different, we are blessed with choice these days with the explosion of craft Brewing around the world.

It makes me think that they should have an official beer world cup to crown the very best one, but in fairness it's pretty subjective, so one man's passion is another man's poison (or woman 👩)

Hey dear @harveyword seems you had a great evening with 4 beers in a bar. A perfect start into the weekend....
