It has been a while since I wrote something about beer, which is unusual because beer and chilling in the sun go hand in hand. Also beer and noodles go hand in hand, that is why Vietnam is such an excellent place to enjoy one here and there. Or did I mention a beach and beer? Also good friends....
So it surely is time to take a look at what kind of beers I have found over here. Because Vietnam has a good name in beer and a nice beer culture going on. Winning for the people on vacay! Warning: they were all so ridiculously cheap is it almost criminal!
Saigon beer
Let's start with the go to beer of all times. Saigon beer. Bia is beer so even with some language issues this was not a hard one to find. A sweet lager which you can also often get on draft for more than reasonable prices is available nearly everywhere.
Yeah lager has been gone a couple of years due to all of the craft beers, but that was a bit unfair actually. Lager never disappoints and you are always certain hwo your trajectory will go in terms of how hard they kick in.
At a swimming pool somewhere available for 40K Dong which is about 1.50 euro which is for a vacay modus more than reasonable. But in the supermarket I also found them for 12K Dong which is 0.45. Well, you kind find that in any Dutch supermarket anymore, I can tell you that.
Pale Ale
This pale ale has a bit of a story to it. This was somewhere where a fireworks show was about to happen where you were additionally charged to have a seat to watch the fireworks show. Now I really don't care about that at all, and this ended up in a bit of a fuss since the place was entirely empty so it was an early exit.
Kind of a bummer, because they had this East West Pale Ale which was a gem and having a 3.49 on Ratebeer confirms that. But the whole situation meant downing the beer and ending the discussion. Boohhh
Tiger
On to the Tiger beers which are available in the normal version and in the chrystal version which only means the beer is more clear. It feels a bit like 'Amstel Bright', even heard of that? A light beer which is not heavy at all and perfect in the sun.
Coming from Thailand this is a decent beer you never have to say no to.
Pale Ale craft
Now again this is a bit of a story. On the island of Phu Quoc you have this town which is entirely artificial again with the fireworks show. They also have a big beer place which which has no soul at all, but really decent beers.
During happy hour this half of a liter Pale Ale from Sun Craftbeer was available for 30K Dong which is 1.13 euro and you would get 2 for 1 beers. So for a liter of Pale Ale it would cost you just a buck. Crazy cheap and this place was designed by German brewers.
Now during this happy hour naturally I ordered a next one becaue it just was really decent and they forgot to charge it. I do believe in karma and that you have to tell that something was forgotten before someone gets in trouble for it. And because we told them, they didn't charge us for it. Winning for us and no one gets fired!
Better said that was 4 half of a liters for just a buck. That is literally the cheapest beer I ever had and the taste was just what you had hoped and expected.
Vietnam did not disappoint me in beer at all. If you love your dosis of hops, this is really a good country to head down to! Cheers to the weekend guys!
Smart move spending winter in Vietnam. You gonna stay there for Christmas?
Dude I wish..duty calls somewhere unfortunately haha. Back in the 50 shades of sucky winter already
vietnam sounds like a wonderfull place to stay for a while drinking beer on the beach :D
