Good Evening Hivians, beer enthusiasts, or whoever happens to stumble across this.
Ohh yeaaaaah #beersaturday is upon us once again, meaning I can justify venturing to the local bottlestore and picking myself up a nice little treat. All in the good name of science and research I say, as I walk in the door with today's gift tucked under my wing, and am confronted by a disgruntled look on my wifes face.. "Again?"
It's #beersaturday babe, someone has to do it, right?
Bloody oath they do, here's what caught my eye today.
Blood Orange brewed by Dainton Beer. These fella's stood out like that 'strawberry blonde' kid in your primary school photo, constantly picked on for his fiery appearance.
Everything about the aesthetics of this beer radiated powerfulness and energy. The bright colours and vibrant pattern instantly drawing the consumers attention. The logo with the lightening bolt promised an electric sensation and experience. And the slogan "drink differently" emphasised that like that ginger kid picked last for lunchtime rugby (only joking), these beers were unique and different to its competitors.
Powerful, vibrant, and unique!!
Blood Orange is a North Eastern Indian Pale Ale possessing an ABV of 6%, packing a decent punch as the aesthetics advertise.
Bursting into life with juicy hops, enhanced by the addition of real blood oranges. Bold and citrusy with a subtle smooth finish. Juicy, hopy, hazy fun.
Definately sounds powerful, vibrant, and unique.. time to put it to the sword and find out if it is the real deal, or merely an imposter dressed in a luscious orban wig.
When poured it possessed a nice light and refreshing colour, with a tinge of sparkling orange encompassed within.
I've really been enjoying IPA's lately, so my expectations were set quite high placing it up against tough competition.
Upon first taste the Blood Orange was very smooth and subtle tasting. A haziness was present, however very lacklustre in comparison to its counterparts in previous weeks. The haziness is a vital element in the quality of an IPA and I feel like they weren't quite on the money with this one.
As I continued to chip away at my first, I battled to find the vibrant orange bodied flavour that its appearance had promised me. A slight citrusy flavour was definately present, and was quite refreshing. However I felt like the taste and flavour was no match for the picture that the aesthetics had presented.
I cracked another two open, hoping that if I dug a little deeper I would be able to uncover that deliciousness I had been craving. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be.
Conclusion
On a positive note the beer was smooth and easy to drink, however it was lacklustre in flavour and character, unparallel to what its appearance had allowed me to envision.
5/10 from me.
You won't catch me buying a pack of them again anytime soon, unless there was a beer shortage and it was a choice between them and a pack of Guinness.
Still had an enjoyable #beersaturday kicked back in front of the tele, watching the Indigenous vs Maori All-Stars Rugby League game.
If only the Blood Orange packed as much heart and passion as these boys did, representing their proud and historically rich cultures. I think the games an awesome concept, one played with so much pride and passion. On ya boys!!
#beersaturday over and out
seems you had a great evening and a game with Maori and Indigenous seems to be way better as all the "china political sport shit"
