Ok, I know it doesn't seem to make much sense the title of this post, but let's not be skeptical.

In cities like Barcelona cultural exchange is a day to day thing, businesses adapt to this almost without thinking about it and that's how you can get yourself a fast food restaurant, which maintains its respect for Halal food, but also offers alcoholic drinks for the most common diner in that area, the locals who go to concerts.

This restaurant is located in front of one of the most popular concert halls in Barcelona, the Sala Razzmatazz. It is undoubtedly an area frequented by a large number of people with very varied musical tastes who come every week and although the location is huge, right in front of the entrance of the Sala 2, the only local that is in front is the Pamplona Doner Kebap.

So anyone waiting for a concert to start or leaving thirsty/hungry from the event will get this fast food joint. It is normal that they have decided to sell beers, besides it must have been something very important for the place because they not only have one brand, but a varied offer of commercial and craft beers, for all tastes and budgets.

I was in this area because I was going to a concert with @josmariyuyi, who lives in Barcelona and I really wanted to meet. As we wanted to arrive early to have time to talk for a while, I had thought to go to an interesting establishment with several taps of beer that is located five minutes from the Sala Razzmatazz 2, but when we arrived it was closed.

So we went straight to the concert venue and that's when we spotted the Kebab place right in front, with the terrace full of people chatting and drinking glasses of beer.

So far I had not been in a Kebab where they sold alcohol, in Zaragoza I have not come across the first one but josmariyuyi was not as surprised as I was, I guess it is something more common in Barcelona. It was not only that what I found different in this place, it is also decorated with many elements referring to the music and concerts they do in front.

I baptized it as The rocker Kebab. I loved it.

Ok, sé que no parece tener mucho sentido el título de este post, pero no seamos escépticos.

En ciudades como Barcelona el intercambio cultural es cosa del día a día, los negocios se adaptan a ello casi sin pensarlo y es así como puedes conseguirte un restaurante de comida rápida, que mantiene su respeto por la comida Halal, pero además ofrece bebidas alcohólicas para el comensal más común en esa zona, los locales que van a conciertos.

Y es que este restaurante está ubicado en frente de una de las salas de conciertos más populares de Barcelona, la Sala Razzmatazz. Sin duda es una zona frecuentada por una gran cantidad de personas con gustos musicales muy variados que acuden todas las semanas y a pesar de que el emplazamiento es enorme, justo en frente de la entrada de la Sala 2, es único local que está al frente es el Pamplona Doner Kebap.

Por lo que cualquier persona que esté esperando por el comienzo de un concierto o que salga sediento/hambriento del evento, se conseguirá con este local de comida rápida. Es normal que hayan decidido vender cervezas, además que ha tenido que ser algo muy importante para el local porque no solo cuentan con una marca, sino con una variada oferta de cervezas comerciales y artesanales, para todos los gustos y bolsillos.

Me encontraba por esta zona porque iba a un concierto junto a @josmariyuyi, quien vive en Barcelona y tenía muchas ganas de conocer. Como queríamos llegar temprano para tener tiempo de hablar un rato, yo había pensado ir a un establecimiento interesante con varios grifos de cerveza que se ubica a cinco minutos de la Sala Razzmatazz 2, pero cuando llegamos estaba cerrado.

Entonces fuimos directamente al lugar del concierto y fue cuando divisamos el local de Kebab justo en frente, con la terraza llena de personas charlando y bebiendo copas de cerveza.

Hasta ahora yo no había estado en un Kebab en donde vendieran alcohol, en Zaragoza no me he topado con el primero pero a josmariyuyi esto no le sorprendió tanto como a mí, me imagino que es algo más común en Barcelona. No fue solo eso lo diferente que encontré en este local, además está decorado con muchos elementos referente a la música y los conciertos que hacen en frente.

Lo bauticé como El Kebab rockero. Me encantó.

Pauwel Kwak - Bosteels

Inside there was enough space, people were piling up outside. My companion decided to play it safe and drink some Pilsen, she chose the San Miguel Especial from Mahou brewery, the biggest in Spain. She was very reckless drinking Madrid beer in Catalonia hahaha.

I was surprised by the variety they had, but I didn't process it at the moment of choosing, so at first I chose by sensations, at that moment I felt like drinking something full of flavor, so when I saw the famous Belgian beer Pauwel Kwak, I didn't hesitate to order it.

Although I would not have the curious glass in which this beer is usually served in here, I found it a very funny experience to drink a beer from Belgium, with such a characteristic and traditional flavor, in a Kebab store in Spain. Quite a multicultural experience, no doubt.

For many this beer needs no introduction, but for those who don't know it, it is a double fermented Amber Ale beer, containing wheat, oats, barley and a supposed secret blend of spices that makes it very particular.

In other words, it does not lack flavor, but neither does it lack alcohol content. It has 8.4% alcohol by volume.

I like it a lot, beers of this style, toasted with intense flavors always make my day.

Adentro había suficiente espacio, la gente se acumulaba fuera. Mi acompañante decidió irse por lo seguro y tomarse unas Pilsen, eligió la San Miguel Especial de la cervecería Mahou, la mas grande de España. Muy temeraria ella tomando cerveza madrileña en Cataluña jajaja.

Yo me sorprendí por la variedad que tenían, pero no lo procese al momento de elegir, así que al principio elegí por sensaciones, en ese momento me sentía con ganas de tomar algo lleno de sabor, así que al ver la cerveza famosa cerveza belga Pauwel Kwak, no dudé en pedirla.

Aunque no dispondría del curioso vaso en donde suele servirse esta cerveza en este local, me pareció una experiencia muy divertida tomarme una cerveza proveniente de Bélgica, con un sabor tan característico y tradicional, en una tienda de Kebab en España. Toda una experiencia multicultural, sin duda.

Para muchos esta cerveza no necesitará presentación, pero para el que la desconozca, es una cerveza Ambar Ale de doble fermentación, que contiene trigo, avena, cebada y una supuesta mezcla secreta de especias que la hace muy particular.

Es decir que sabor no le falta, pero grados de alcohol tampoco. Tiene 8,4% en volumen de alcohol.

A mí me gusta mucho, las cervezas de este estilo, tostadas con sabores intensos siempre me alegran el día.

Big Bear - Barcelona Beer Company

At the end between chatting and smiling, josmariyuyi suggested that we had something to eat before the concert, because we would leave at 11 pm and besides, I think she was worried that the beer wouldn't hit us too much, thanks for bringing me dinner that day. Hahaha she continued steadfastly to her San Miguel and I continued to rummage through the fridge at the place.

Having several unknown options to choose from, I started to let myself get carried away by the funny labels knowing that they would be small craft houses. I had already had my first beer according to my regular tastes, so it was time to get out of the comfort zone.

Since we were in Barcelona, the most logical thing to do was to give priority to a local brand. Then I noticed that there was the Barcelona Beer Company brand that I hadn't had a chance to try so far.

The label with the name Big Bear was very striking and regardless of the type of beer, I decided to order it, I had to try it. It turned out to be a Pale Ale with 5% alcohol by volume, very light (even lighter than San Miguel) and easy to drink, what makes it feel different are the hops used in its elaboration, all of English origin.

A beer that was very good to accompany the food because of its lightness. I don't have too much to contribute about the dishes, it's the typical kebab meat, without too many surprises. We ordered a mix of beef and chicken along with some croquettes, the latter very uninteresting, but we knew where we were, one does not go to eat croquettes at the kebab expecting them to be homemade.

Al final entre charla y charla, josmariyuyi propuso que comiéramos algo antes del concierto, porque saldríamos a las 11 pm y además, creo que le preocupaba que la cerveza no nos pegara mucho, gracias por brindarme la cena ese día. Jajaja ella siguió firme a su San Miguel y yo seguí curioseando la nevera del local.

Teniendo varias opciones desconocidas de donde elegir, me comencé a dejar llevar por las divertidas etiquetas sabiendo que serían pequeñas casas artesanales. Ya había me había tomado la primera cerveza según mis gustos regulares, así que era hora de salir de la zona de confort.

Ya que estábamos en Barcelona, lo más lógico era darle prioridad a una marca local. Entonces me fijé que estaba la marca Barcelona Beer Company que hasta el momento no había tenido oportunidad de probar.

La etiqueta con el nombre Big Bear era muy llamativa y sin importar el tipo de cerveza, decidí pedirla, había que probarla. Resultó ser una Pale Ale con 5% en volumen de alcohol, muy ligera (incluso más que la San Miguel) y fácil de beber, lo que la hace sentir diferente son los lúpulos que utilizan en su elaboración, todos de origen inglés.

Una cerveza que me vino super bien para acompañar la comida por su ligereza. No tengo demasiado que aportar sobre los platos, es la típica carne de kebab, sin demasiadas sorpresas. Pedimos un mix de ternera y pollo junto a unas croquetas, estas últimas muy poco interesantes, pero sabíamos donde estábamos, uno no va a comer croquetas al kebab esperando que sean caseras.

Break: La Vida Bohemè live in concert

After a couple of beers and dinner, we crossed the street about half an hour before the concert started and found ourselves in a very nice atmosphere, full of people who love this band as much as I do. I would like to share with you a picture of that night and the most recent video of the new album, if anyone is curious about their style.

Inside the room there were two bars arranged on either side of the stage, we had not considered being able to drink inside, it was the first time we attended both, but at that time we were quite full and thought it would surely be more expensive. As the hours passed at the concert, we considered buying some, but the atmosphere was so charged with energy and I was so into the music that I dismissed it, plus we saw many people, trying to get through the crowd, spilling their drinks.

But when we left the concert, we went straight back to El Kebab rockero to rest for a while and exchange opinions about the concert before saying goodbye.

Luego del par de cervezas y la cena, cruzamos la calle una media hora antes de que comenzara el concierto y nos encontramos en un ambiente muy agradable, lleno de gente que adora este grupo musical tanto como yo. Les comparto una foto de esa noche y el video más reciente del nuevo disco, si alguien siente curiosidad por su estilo.

Dentro de la sala había dos barras dispuestas a cada lado del escenario, no habíamos considerado poder beber dentro, era la primera vez que asistíamos ambas, pero en ese momento estábamos bastante llenas y pensamos que seguramente sería más caro. Al pasar las horas en el concierto, consideramos comprar alguna, pero el ambiente estaba tan cargado de energía y yo tan metida en la música que lo descarté, además vimos a muchas personas, tratando de atravesar la multitud, desparramando sus bebidas.

Pero al salir del conciert, regresamos directamente a El Kebab rockero para descansar un rato e intercambiar opiniones sobre el concierto antes de despedirnos.

After leaving the concert so excited and full of adrenaline, I went for all bets to continue trying the local craft brewery and I ordered an IPA, I hesitated for a moment because it's not my style of beer, I know many like it but I don't. But hey! that doesn't mean I don't try them from time to time to learn things, plus I have to admit that the funny name and label were what led me to order it.

I remember that josmariyuyi was laughing a lot as I was switching from beer to beer and asking for things with weird names, while she kept on with her safe bet.

I don't remember the exact price of the other beers, but I can't forget the price of this one because the guy who was serving us asked me twice if I was sure I wanted it, the second time he warned me that it cost 4,00 €, much more than the glasses on tap that everyone who was leaving the concert was asking for.

I went happy with my Flying Pigs to the table, accompanied with a very cold bottle of water, because I gave my best singing at the concert and my throat was really dry.

Once hydrated, I focused on the Session IPA I had ordered and was pleasantly surprised. Only 4.5% alcohol by volume, one of those sweet, hop-forward IPA's that taste so much better to me than the ones that are too herbal. I would even order this one again, something I don't usually consider too much, I think it's a style that goes great with fast food and with a Doner Kebab it wouldn't be bad hahaha.

This last photo reflects how happy we were that evening with the concert experience and sharing a few beers, plus the destruction at the end, disheveled, unglamorous and post concert, but very happy hahaha. I hope that when @josmariyuyi reads this post, she will be encouraged to post in the weekly #BeerSaturday challenge, it would be great to read you around here.

Al salir del concierto tan animada y llena de adrenalina, me fui por todas las apuestas a seguir probando la cervecería artesanal local y me pedí una IPA, lo dudé un momento porque no es mi estilo de cerveza, sé que a muchos les gusta pero a mi no. ¡Pero hey! eso no signifique que no las pruebe de vez en cuando para ir aprendiendo cosas, además tengo que admitir que el nombre y la etiqueta tan divertidas fueron lo que me llevó a pedírmela.

Recuerdo que josmariyuyi se estaba riendo mucho al ver como yo cambiaba de cerveza en cerveza y me pedía cosas con nombres raros, mientras ella seguía con su apuesta segura.

No recuerdo el precio exacto de las demás cervezas, pero el de esta no se me olvida porque el chico que nos atendía me preguntó dos veces si estaba segura de quererla, la segunda vez me advirtió que costaba 4,00 €, mucho mas que las copas de grifo que estaban pidiendo todos los que salían del concierto.

Me fui contenta con mis Cerdos voladores a la mesa, acompañada además con una botella de agua muy fría, porque lo di todo cantando en el concierto y mi garganta estaba realmente seca.

Una vez hidratada, me concentré en la Session IPA que había pedido y me sorprendió gratamente. Solo 4,5 % en volumen de alcohol, de esas IPA’s afrontadas y dulces que me saben mucho mejor que las que son demasiado herbales. Esta incluso me la volvería a pedir, algo que no suelo considerar demasiado, creo que es un estilo que va muy bien para acompañar comidas rápidas y con un Doner Kebabno estaría mal jajaja.

Esta última foto refleja lo contenta que estuvimos esa tarde con la experiencia del concierto y compartiendo unas cervezas, además de la destrucción del final, despeinadas, sin glamour y post concierto, pero muy felices jajaja. Jajaja una mala influencia diría que eso es falta de costumbre, pero no seré yo jajaja. De vez en cuando no cae mal, a mí lo que me entretiene es probar tanta variedad que hay por ahí.

I don't think I have ever been to a kebab house either. We have a place in town that does mediterranean food, but I think it is more all over the place. I remember I tried the kafta there once. This looks like it was a really great evening for you!

This is something very European, in America in general I don't think I've ever seen anything like this. But over here you can get 10 of them for each McDonalds hahaha it's just the most popular and affordable fast food.

You have made a very healthy decision! I often drink non-alcoholic beer, if the problem is not the other components, there are some very interesting versions of non-alcoholic roasted beers. The taste and the sensation of drinking them very cold doesn't make you miss the alcohol. So cheers to the evolution of the market.

What a good time you girls had, cool that you found that place and you gave it a proper name haha, The rocker Kebab. Good company, dinner, beers, music and again beer, I mean pigs, flying pigs lol, what a funny name 😂 - perfection!

Too cool that name, Barcelona is full of fun places and things like that, I know not everyone likes the chaos of that city, but I have a great time.

San Miguel? Oh, what the hell?

There are several really good microbreweries in Barcelona, where San Miguel, Mahou, Cruzcampo and those alike are like what guiris are to Barceloneses: https://superminimaps.com/barcelona-craft-beer/

I know my friend, I do haha but I respect other people's tastes, sometimes it's just fear of the unknown.

You should know, my main plan was to go to Garage beer, it's the second option in the link you left me here, it was very close to the concert hall, but as I mentioned, it was closed even though in their website and google maps they announced the opposite, bad luck.

Anyway craft beers are not for everyone, I prefer them yes, but there is a reason why commercial beers sell so much. It's a matter of taste, so there is little to be added to that matter. 😂

That title really doesn't make sense as, unfortunately, kebab is associated with junk food and it's often (at least in my area) combined with junk drinks, such as Coca-Cola, Sprite, and similar... Seeing a combination of kebab, craft beer, + a very nice ambiance, is something refreshing and gives hope to others who would like to run a unique kebab restaurant!

Plus, you were in great company there! That's a bonus! Have a great meetup!
