They know better, right? My mother's father also warned her about her first fiance, almost-husband, and to her dismay, he was also right about the chap. Lucky for me, as my mother then met my father, hence my presence! A higher hand that knows better..

The higher Hand always knows better, and it departs the correct feelings to one's parents. The sad thing is that as youngsters, we always know better, and eventually we burn our fingers, instead of listening in the first place. Parents have a lifetime of experience available to us for free, but like I said, we always think that we know better. !LOL

But interestingly enough, by burning your fingers, you learn life lessons that you would not have learned if you only listened to your parents. There is a fine balance one needs to find somehow between listening and experiencing. Because experience cannot be given or transferred from one's parents. But in listening to one's parents and doing things in life (still getting hurt or burning one's fingers) will be better, I think.

Oh yes, and that's why it's called the university of life. Each of our roads in our journey in this life is planned, and what we call mistakes, are indeed lessons to shape our characters. Either we listen or not, we still have to claim responsibility for our actions. You are right about the listening part Prof. as eventually all things will work itself out without our clumsy meddling. !LOL

Hahah almost almost then I need to defend my PhD, and then I really need to listen! Thanks so much, and yes, life is the absolute university from which we never really graduate but always acquire new skills.

No need to worry, as I am confident that the PhD will be yours soon. I agree on the new skills part, but it can also often show us how wrong we are !LOL

Talked to my supervisor yesterday, and we are confident that the PhD will be done in 2025! Other interesting stories to share as well, not that wonderful (BEE and other political nonsense in academia; but more of that when we meet).
