Beer Tasting: Old Prague Bohemian Premium Lager and Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier

in BEER7 days ago (edited)

Hello, beer lovers! 🍻

It's already Happy December here!
All the activities are slowly winding down, and the office parties and celebrations are starting. The city's streets are decorated with lights and fir trees; music is everywhere. All in all, we are doing well.

Our network is also doing well. After BTC settled up to around 100K, Hive also picked up a bit, so there's no reason not to taste some new beers.

I took two cans out of the fridge, one German and one Czech, and for the 389th consecutive #beersaturday I'm happy to taste them and share my feelings with you.

I'll start with the one with less alcohol.

🍻 😎 🍻

Old Prague Bohemian Premium Lager

Brewed by Old Prague Distribution, Prague, Czech Republic.
Can, 0.5 l, alcohol 4.8% ABV, IBU N/A
It's Bohemian-Pilsener style, rich, golden Czech lager with bready malt and hop character.

What do the Master Brewers say?

Golden color, clear, good snow-white foam, with light malt and slightly sour and grassy hops. Malt with candies and noticeable hop bitterness, relatively clean and strong, simple, but good beer-drinking pilsner.

🍺

I bought it in the Plodine shopping center, bought some bread, and, as usual, checked the beer shelves to see if anything was new. I hadn't seen this can before; the price was relatively reasonable, €1.16.

The beer is golden in color, with a considerable and persistent head. It has no odor. It goes down the throat smoothly, and in the mouth, I first tasted the complex sweetness of malt, some caramel, and bread, but then the bitterness of the hops overpowered everything and lingered in the aftertaste for quite some time.

Beer is drinkable, no doubt about it. It's a standard Czech lager, nothing earth-shattering, with a slightly more pronounced bitterness in the aftertaste, but that's all I can mention.

🍻 😎 🍻

Let's go on to Bavaria!

Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier

Brewed by Paulaner Brauerei, Munich, Bavaria, Germany.
Can, 0.5 l, alcohol 6.0% ABV, IBU N/A.
It's a Märzen or Oktoberfest style beer, malty German lager, with bready malt flavor and restrained bitterness.

What do the Master Brewers say?

Ever since 1818 we have brewed our bottom-fermented Oktoberfest Bier during Oktoberfest. The glass is full of October sunshine, strong and golden. The perfect balance of a light taste of hops and a strong note of malt. The initial mild taste followed by a stronger note, invites you to take a second taste.
By tradition it is also slightly stronger than a normal Lager, but the high grade of fermentation makes it particularly easy to drink.

🍺

Once, quite a few years ago, I was at the Oktoberfest in Munich, and it was a lot of fun, but this year, I'm tasting these beers at home. Bought in the Spar supermarket chain, Croatia, in Senj, for €1.56.

The beer is yellow, the head is average, and there is no smell. The first sip goes down the throat smoothly. I can taste the sweetness of the malt, a little caramel, and biscuit, and the bitterness of the hops is barely perceptible.
The bitterness of the hops dominates for a while, only in the aftertaste, when all the sweetness has disappeared.

The beer is drinkable and fresh, but it's nothing special for an Oktoberfest beer. I expected more complexity from a well-known brewery like Paulaner. Their wheat beers are top-notch, but the Oktoberfest beers I have drunk have been better.

Maybe it's also possible that I didn't taste well because my wife (lucky she takes care of me) brought me some fresh frittoles, which we call mice, and traditional pastries baked for the holidays here.

🍻 😎 🍻

🍻 😎 🍻

And what am I listening to when I'm tasting beers and writing this? Something from my yesterday's #newtunes post. New band for me, I have it on radar.

Paulaner - such as great classic beer

Paulaner is a classic, but I think it's better known for its excellent wheat beers.

Fun post!

I appreciate your support!

The foam and golden hue of the beer make your mouth water just by looking at it.

Yes, I'm always thirsty :) !BEER

Been many years since I was at Oktoberfest, good reviews!

Thank you. I haven't been seen there for years either, but there's no shortage of beer and sausages :)

€1,56 seems quite expensive for a Paulaner. I do like my Weiß bier now and then in summer!! Nice review.

Yes, unfortunately, it is. The further south you go, the higher the prices in these supermarket chains...
