Hello, beer lovers! 🍻
Life goes on. I attended one funeral and met quite a few people I knew from my younger days. They were all different. Much older.
But, as I said, life goes on. Although #beersaturday is for fun, it's also for me, part of belonging to a community, and I carry on.
I have two cans in front of me, one Slovenian and one American, and I'll gladly share my experience.
I usually start with the one that has more alcohol, but today is the first time (after seven years) that both have the same amount.
I'll start with a beer from the land of Slovenian son-in-law 😜
Oskar Blues Dale's Pale Ale
Brewed by Oskar Blues Brewery, Longmont, Colorado, USA.
Can, 0.35 l, alcohol 6.5% ABV, IBU 65.
It's American Pale Ale or APA-style, a hop-forward beer with sufficient malt to balance it.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Brewed with hefty European malts and four kinds of American hops, it delivers a blast of hop aromas, a rich middle of malt and hops, and a thrilling finish. It weighs in at 6.5 % alcohol by volume.
Why squeeze such a big brew into a little can?
Because we think fun in the great outdoors calls for great beer. Our cans go where bottled beers can’t, where flavorless canned beers don’t belong. And no matter where you drink Dale’s Pale Ale, our can protect it from light and oxidation far better than bottles do.
The aroma is malty with strong, dank, piney hops. Very enticing! Flavor is bitter and caramel malty, with a piney citrus hop body shining through. Finishes sweet, tangy, and a little dry. Mouthfeel is well carbonated even after the swallow as the carbonic prickle lingers.
🍺
A comprehensive explanation, I have to admit.
The beer is light brown and has an average head that disappears quickly. It has no particular smell. The first sip goes down the throat smoothly. I taste the bitterness of hops and grapefruit, immediately followed by the sweetness of malt, dried fruit, and caramel.
The bitter-sweet aftertaste lingers for some time.
The beer is refreshing and very drinkable. What I like most is the balance between hops and malts, which you don't find in most beers. It's either one or the other.
I have no complaints. I would have liked another can immediately, but I don't have one. It's only available here in the specialist shop Pivoljub.si, €3.54 ... I've only just noticed that it has a new owner, One Pint ...
Next time I order, another one will definitely be for my fridge.
Lobik Apress Rolling Down the Hill
Brewed by Lobik Brewery, Ruše, Slovenia.
Can, 0.33 l, alcohol 6.5%, IBU N/A.
It's Hazy IPA or NEIPA (New England India Pale Ale), a beer with intense fruit aromas. less bitternes than clasic IPAs.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Apress Rolling Down the Hill is a ski-inspired NEIPA brewed with Nectaron, Wolf Spectrum, and Cryo Citra hops.
A modern IPA for the modern man.
🍺
The beer is cloudy yellow, with an average head. It smells fruity - to me, it smells of pineapple. The first sip goes down the throat smoothly. The mouth first tastes the bitterness of the hops and then the slightly sweetish flavors of pineapple and peach.
The bitterness lingers in the aftertaste for some time.
A juicy and drinkable beer. Just enough bitterness, not extreme, followed by juicy fruit flavors and aromas. It's a decent beer, and I have no complaints.
It is unavailable in local shops; it can only be ordered online from them and from Pivoljub.si. I will have to order it again for the fridge.
