Beer Tasting: Siren Soundwave IPA and Duchesse de Bourgogne

in BEER2 days ago

Hello, beer lovers! 🍻

Another sunny day and work in the field. A real jungle had grown around the field, so I cut and cleared old, dry branches. It was pretty hot - 20 degrees Celsius - a bit too much for the beginning of March. But it gets cold when the sun goes down, and it gets dark.
Now, in the evening, I am tired and thirsty. I have a reason for beer again!

I've only had water and coffee all day, so I'm going to have two beers for 401 #beersaturday, one English and one Belgian. I'll be more than happy to empty them and share the beer experience with you.

First, the one with less alcohol.

🍻 😎 🍻

Siren Soundwave IPA

Brewed by Siren Craft Brew, Wokingham, Berkshire, England.
Can, 0.33 l, alcohol 5.6% ABV, IBU N/A. IPA style beer.

What do the Master Brewers say?

Welcome to tropical hop heaven. Soundwave is eminently drinkable, full of flavour and subtle with bitterness. Our most famous beer pours with an inviting haze, while big-hitting American hops deliver fruit notes in abundance and a trademark resinous finish.

I've never had a beer from this brewery before, but judging by the reviews I believe it will be good.

The beer is clear and yellow. The head is solid and creamy and disappears quickly. It smells of hops and tropical fruits. The first sip goes down the throat smoothly. The palate develops a dominant hop bitterness, followed by tropical fruits and citrus, mainly. The background also has a malt sweetness and a discreet pine aroma.
In the aftertaste, everything slowly disappears.

It's a drinkable and refreshing beer with many bitter and sweet flavors — an IPA as it should be. Unfortunately, it's unavailable locally; it can only be ordered from a specialist shop (€3.34). If I had one, I would have another one in a heartbeat.

🍻 😎 🍻

As I mentioned at the beginning, I have been outside all day (actually, all week) cleaning the area around the field (mainly because of the sun), which is completely overgrown. A few photos.

Let's move on to Belgium!

Duchesse de Bourgogne

Brewed by Brouwerij Verhaeghe, Anzegem, Vlaams Gewest Belgium.
Bottle, 0.25 l, alcohol 6.2% ABV, IBU 11. Red ale style beer. Sour.

What do the Master Brewers say?

Duchesse de Bourgogne is a Flemish Red-Brown beer of mixed fermentation. It is a sweet-fruity beer with a pleasant fresh finish. The beer is brewed with deep roasted malts and slightly aromatic hops with a low bitterness level. After primary fermentation and lagering, the “Duchesse de Bourgogne” matures further for months in oak casks. The tannins present in the oak give “Duchesse de Bourgogne” its fruity character. After the first and secondary fermentation, the beer goes for maturation into the oak barrels for 18 months. The final product is a blend of younger 8 months old beer with 18 months old beer. The average age of the Duchesse de Bourgogne before being bottled is 12 months.

Well, that's something - a mix of younger and older beers. I admit I don't know such details - it's probably a story about Duchee, too - but they are interesting.

The beer is dark brown, and the head is solid and disappears quickly. It smells fruity. A sip goes down the throat smoothly, and I taste a sour-sweet taste in the mouth, which reminds me most of apple cider or apple juice when it starts to ferment and turns to vinegar (I've done this myself). But it's not disturbing because it's balanced by the sweetness of the fruit, which can be felt in the background. There is no bitterness.
In the aftertaste, it all disappears quickly.

The beer is drinkable and, dare I say it, very extreme. I have never tasted anything like it before. I have tried a few sour beers, but they have all been like low-alcohol juice.
This beer is different. It is an elegant, strong, sour-sweet drink, almost like a balsamic fruit vinegar from Modena, but more for lovers.
It is unavailable locally except by ordering from a specialist shop (€3.03).
Maybe I should keep a sample in the fridge to introduce friends to such an extreme? What do I know? :)

wow, that beer is still bubbling, it's delicious to drink, especially when it's cold enjoy drinking have a nice day cheers!

Yes, I drank it a few hours ago :)

It was pretty hot - 20 degrees Celsius - a bit too much for the beginning of March.

Probably this summer will be also very hot on the European continent, similarly to the previous years. I heard that there were record high temperatures in multiple countries. Cold drinks and ice creams will be very pleasant. Cheers and greetings.

Xheers and greetings to you, too. We'll see the weather. For the whole of next week, the weather forecast here is for rain at temperatures of up to 10 degrees C.
