[BEER REVIEW] A sustainable IPA from Rotterdam 🍺

in BEER3 years ago (edited)

Using ingredients such as stale bread, sorghum and rainwater, Dutch Vet & Lazy likes to profile itself as a "circular" and sustainable brewery. This has probably contributed to the growth of the company and the attracting of several major financiers.

As students, Okke van Beuge and Ruben Krommenhoek started brewing in their kitchen, but the company has been running since 2015.

Let's see whether or not this "circular" profile is reflected in the beer.

Vet & Lazy - Fluffy IPA
Origin: Rotterdam, Netherlands
Brewery: Vet & Lazy
Style: English IPA
ABV: 5.6%
Malts: Barley, Rye and black malt (roasted pilsner malt)
Hops: Magnum, Bravo and Bavaria Mandarina
330 ml bottle

Appearance: Dark amber and medium hazy.

Nose: Resinous and hoppy. Plenty of grapefruit aromas.

Palate: Pleasant palate and texture. Quite fruity, but not sweet. Grapes and grapefruit dominate, with a malty caramel base that counterpoints the fruitiness wonderfully.

Finish: Dry and bitter. Again grapefruit, accompanied by burnt caramel.

Conclusion: This is very down to earth and old school. Far from the modern tropical New England fruit soups. Quality stuff and 4.5 out of 5 hop cones in my book.
