Beer Saturday: The beer before the race on a busy weekend

in BEER3 years ago

Even though I was running a race on Sunday I still fancied a beer. Dinner was a lentil curry. My other half went to the northern town of Alnwick (pronounced Annick) with some friends recently and brought me back some beers. This was the first I had sampled.

Beer

This beer surprised me with a lovely strong flavour with some hints of caramel. I really enjoyed it whilst we watched Strictly Come Dancing (my not so guilty pleasure). I look forward to the others from Alnwick Brewery.

I actually had a couple of other beers over the weekend. On Friday my son and I went to see Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. He had already seen it, but wanted to see it again. We went for a burger first at Firejacks and I had a pint of Goose Island that went down well.

The movie was fun with great action scenes. The one on the bus is very well done. I did like seeing Sir Ben Kingley back as Trever Slattery who was also in Iron Man 3. One notable thing about this movie is how much is subtitled. That is rare in such a mainstream movie. A friend who speaks Mandarin and Cantonese is keen to see it, but she is less keen about going back to the cinema. It was my first visit in ages. It was not very full, so we could have some space around us.

Yesterday I was out again for an open mic night in Hitchin at The Angel's Share. They have loads of whiskeys, but as I was driving I just had a beer. That was a Hobgoblin Gold. There are so many beers out there that I wonder why some people stick to the same one all the time.

Open mic

I took my Telecaster to the open mic for a change. With my weak right hand it can be easier to play than my acoustic. I used my Zoom G3X to get a reasonable sound rather than taking an amplifier. We were using a neat little JBL battery powered PA system. I ended up playing a lot of songs as I also did some as part of @Swing47. We may try for some more gigs with me playing the electric.

I have to say I was exhausted by the time I got home last night, but pretty happy with my weekend. Back to work today.

It sounds like it was a really fulfilling weekend! I have wanted to try some of the Goose Island beers, but I have never gotten around to it. I did go to a concert this past weekend, but I didn't drink at all. Only when I was home.

The band should have been busking on Saturday as well, but some couldn't make it. I think it was enough as it was. That's the most drinking I've done on a weekend in a while.

You did enjoy your weekend, funny how it all started with a bottle of beer🍻

A very fun weekend, need extra rest to get back fit to do the next work..
